Windows 10 Pro update issue

Recommended Posts

I was trying to fix a problem with SteamVR Home and got sucked in.

At the time I wanted to update Windows I got this message:

"Some settings are managed by your organization"

Give that I am the only admin on my system and the sole

owner of said system, I though this that me so I should be able to manage them.

Not so! I found two solution to this one involved Group policy editor and the other

regeditor. Neither solution worked.

There are the issues which I transcribed from windows update:

View Configured update policies

Wondering why you’re seeing ‘Some setting are managed by your organization’?

Examples include:

·       Your organization has set some policies to manage updates

·       You have opted in for Windows insider program

Policies set on your device

Intranet Update Service for detecting Updates

Source: Administrator

Type: Group Policy

Allow connecting to Windows Update Internet Locations

Source: Administrator

Type: Group Policy

Disable all online services for Windows update except manager services

Source: Administrator

Type: Group Policy

Use alternate URL for Update Service

Source: Administrator

Type: Group Policy

Configure an alternative location for downloading updates when scanning against a manager service

Source: Administrator

Type: Group Policy

Do not connect to any Windows Update internet locations

Source: Administrator

Type: Group Policy

If anyone knows how to fix this or where the fix can be found much appreciated

1. There is a higher admin account than your's.

2. It is possibly best to ignore the message.

Well if there is I'm re-installing.

I am the sole owner and user of this system.

I built and and installed everything myself.

So something is a miss!

How?

There is a hidden administrator account in Windows 10.

I did not discover this fact on line. I noticed that there was an option to

unhide in Winaero Tweaker.

So after unhidding the built in Administrators account I logged into it

and looked for the group policy: Allow connecting to Windows Update Internet Locations

under Windows update in the Group policy editior and changed it appropriately.

I then logged out of the build in Administrators account and logged back into my

regular account and in Windows update and the message:

"Some settings are managed by your organization"

was gone and when I clicked update windows, it updated normally.

That's averts the complete reinstall for me for now.

But at some point, perhaps when Prepar3D V5 is released

I'll do a complete reinstall. When I do the first thing I'll do is

unhide the built in administrator account and delete the account

I setup when installing. That way there will be only one account

on the computer with full administrator privileges.

I should add that I caused this problem in the first place by using Winaero to disable windows update in the first place.

Not the apps fault. Mine for misusing it. Since I believe I uninstalled the app to install a newer version without first reseting

all the tweaks I had applied.
