Windows 7 support or not?

Hi guys,

This week Microsoft stopped its (security) support for Windows 7.  If you continue to use PSXseeeconTraffic under Windows 7 you are at risk while you need internet to run RealTraffic and PSXT.

Windows 7 is from 2009, it is 2020 now, so I was thinking to release PSXT 17.0 for Windows 10 only (and AILG and PPG).

What do you think?

If we fly with P3Dv4 from 2018 abd upwards, why use an OS from 2009...

Maybe I am the last user of W7 but I’m very satisfied with it , it does everything perfect.

I don’t use it for Internet browsing I have other computers but for FSX the way I have it set up works perfectly fine.

I am not planning to upgrade unless I have to with a new Microsoft simulator coming in a year.

I can use my W10 tablet but I found networked set up introduce starters and other problems.

making the other supporting programs W10 only will take me out because they cannot be used on network and in the past they always supported W7

If it is a huge problem for you to continue supporting  W7 I can always move to LorbyLive which seems to be working fine and supports W7

Not everybody wants the hassle of a complete P3D re-install once more, I guess. Keeping up with a sound and well maintained P3D setup on which everything play well together is becoming increasingly difficult.

The migration from Windows 7 works pretty well, not much different than a service-pack.

You can always use "Classic Shell" for the start menu. There's even a Windows 7 start orb you can use.

Time to dump Windows 7 support. In-place upgrade to Win 10 is not that big of a deal...I've done it and was surprised how painless it was.

Because it runs perfectly fine and will run flight sims like P3D - based on older 2006 design - very well.

True, but it is old, outdated and without any security support now... Btw : W10 runs P3D smoother than W7. That is my own experience. And I upgraded free and within 30 minutes without any issues.

For me that would be reason enough to upgrade ...

That people choose not to upgrade is fine. But you can’t expect developers to release products for it ..

The question is how long your P3D stays well maintained when virusses and malware inject your PC ...

To my knowledge Lorby Live also uses RealTraffic as source, so it faces the same problems...

so, i'm well covered thanks (imaginesim aren't updating WSSS anyway / GSX is buried) ..... my 25yo volvo is less hassle than my 5yo subaru.

how any topics on avsim are there about W10 glitches (ie subaru recalls)

Some people ( mostly the older ones ) do not like to update and prefer to stay with what they got..

Fyi : W10 is working flawlessly on my system as also W7 did. At Avsim you often see the same people having issues.....

Recommended. But not compulsory.

Your hard work and amazing efforts are highly appreciate it and we are all addicted to what you have created.

Your program injected another level into simulation.

 

The title of your post asks - W7 support or not.

In my opinion, if it’s a lot of extra work, it’s your decision.

If you are trying to protect W7 users, I know the risks and  you can let me decide.

If you have to make W10 version only for technical or other reasons, then I could request keeping AILG and PPG W7 compatible, so I can continue using it in the network configuration.

For other posters in this conversation, I don’t need to be convinced about amazing stuff in W10, that is not the subject of this discussion
