My voice not recognized

Recommended Posts

I have 2 sound devices: 1 Realtek headset (only microphone cable is connected via Jack) and Realtek speakers with Jack connected.

Just to summarize what I have done:

Language English US installed, changed region to English US, set up voice recognition in Win10 to test and it is working.

Running the AppWizard everything goes fine until I reach point 9 ( "select speed two four zero") my voice is not recognized.

So basically Win10 recognizes my voice, but MCE does not.

Peter

By the way when coming to point 9, Windows little Voice recog wizard comes up. I cannot remmeber seeing that in my

old installation. Checking which apps can access the mic, I can Prepar3D.exe.

I assume headset is connected to the audio device via the connectors at the back of the PC.

Pink for microphone. Green or black for audio out.

OK, now that you have mentioned the Realtek device...

I suggest the following.

Go to Windows Control Panel and run add-remove programs

Locate "Realtek Hi-definition audio....." software and un-install it.

Restart computer.

Windows 10 should re-detect the Realtek audio chip, install and use its own built-in, digitally signed drivers for the audio chip.

They are better overall, especially for speech reco. Realtek doesn't seem to care about that aspect, since very few users actually use speech reco.

EDIT: You'll also notice after using Windows 10 own drivers and running "assign sound device" tool, that there are actually 2 inputs "front mic connector" (when mike is physically connected to the audio via the front PC plate) and "rear mic..." when connecting through the back.

Yeah, this got me further. Now strange thing is that the voice answers partially in German.

😃😄😃

I can only think of a German TTS voice setting itself as the default FO voice

In MCE user interface, "Command" tab, click <Change> button next to Co-pilot voice.

In voice assignment panel, pick up one of the human recorded voices and click OK to assign it. Try "Clive" or "William".

Should definitely give you a human recorded FO.

Now, if you have a quality TTS voice and would like to use it instead, go back to "Voice assignment panel" and click TTS voices at the top.

Assuming your preferred TTS voice (the 32 bit version) is installed, it should show up there.

Select it and assign it as the FO voice.

It's almost working now. One problem left is, when I tune in ATC the CoPi voice gets so quite,

that I cannot hear her/him anaymore.

It's a known Win7/Win10 feature.

Windows will occasionally attenuate volume levels of apps it deems are background tasks, when the foreground app plays audio (in this case ATC).

To disabled that behavior, go to Windows Control Panel.

Start <Audio> applet and go to <Communications> tab.

Select option "Do nothing" (do not attenuate)

Thank, thank you very much, Gerald. I am now a happy MCE user again.

Happy too early. CoPi voice still turns down when ATC is active even so I have communication

configured as recommended. In addition I "loose" my first officer quite often (no communication,

no actions). Sometimes she/he comes back later during the flight.

Which sound drivers are you on? Realtek or Windows digitally signed drivers?

Is headset connected to front or back of the PC?

I am on Windows drivers. Just deleted the Realtek ones and made a system restart.

The headset is connected to back of the PC.

I followed the recomendations in the article but CoPi voice still turns down when ATC is active.

I do have an old soundcard laying around. Do you think that might help?

I use a USB headset.

I don't know if it's worth swapping sound card.

I do occasionally get volume attenuation when ATC speech is on, and then it comes back to normal level.

If it's something you're comfortable doing, may want to. But don't send your PC to a workshop or hire a specialist for that.

I think it's one of the most recent Windows 10 updates that behaves as if it's ignoring the "Do nothing" option in <Communications> tab.

Thanks Gerald, the sound card is here and I can put it into the PC.

Being it a Win10 issue, I wonder how many users are facing this problem.

Would be great if users could comment. I will open another thread.
