New Monitor for New PC

Hi all - just got myself a new rig with the following specs:

GTX 2070 Super

i7 9700K

16GB RAM

And I want to buy a new monitor. Realistically I’m not going to be able to achieve 60fps, so I believe a 30hz capable monotor is going to be optimal. However, there doesn’t seem to be any way of telling if a monitor is 30hz capable, so I’d really like some recommendations on monitors people know are 30Hz capable.

 

- Preferably max 27 inch, maybe ~30 at a push. 
- 30Hz capable, but also 60hz+ for use other than flight sim.

- Open to different resolutions

If you’re going for less than 30”, I’d go for QHD (2560x1440). You can’t see the pixels at that res/size so there’s no real point in getting 4k (other than to put extra strain on your system). 4k only really comes into its own at 40” or more.

I’d have to disagree I’m afraid. There are no 40” UHD monitors, only televisions. Whereas there is a plethora of 32” UHD monitors and mine runs at 30Hz as well as 60. The OP would need to check the specs on a manufacturers website for the lowest frequency supported.

I agree that a 27” display is best at 2560*1440.

An alternative to a 30Hz display would be a G-Sync display. 

I use a 24" 2560x1440 Dell G-Sync display on my portable simming rig, and it works very well.  There are a few 27" 2560x1440 G-Sync IPS-panel monitors to choose from.

If you've never seen a 34" 21:9 ultrawide G-Sync in action, you might ought to look at those, too.

That is a new model not available 16 months ago when I was looking. It would be too large for me but given it’s the same price as I paid for my BenQ it looks a bargain if people have the space. They must have compromised somewhere to keep the price that low.

I heard GSYNC isn’t as good an option as 30hz for P3D... but never understood why.

The Philips has been replaced by a 43” model and the second is no longer available.

But you can still buy the 40" model. My point was that there are 40" UHD monitors around.

There weren’t when I was looking 18 months ago. Strange there’s nothing between 32” and 40”. A 16:9 36” would have been ideal for me.
