viirs process file error FFX

Recommended Posts

I keep trying to download the active fires from the live fires tab in FFX, but get an error from NASA. It asks me to manually download the .csv files and place them in my downloads folder.  This is for active fire in Aus and NZ not global.

I then try and process them in FFX but keep getting an error - "This file is empty. This is usually an temporary issue on the NASA-FIRMS website. Please try again later.

Can anyone assist me in getting the active fires to show in FSX, either automatically or by a manual download please?

Hi,

looks like the URLs of the NASA datafiles have changed.

Please do this:

1. Download this file (right-click -> Save target as):

https://www.lorby-si.com/uploads/6/0/8/2/60827113/firefighterx_viirs_modis.xml

2. Then save it to

C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\LORBY_SI\FireFighterX***\

overwriting the file that is already there. (The *** depends on the version(s) you have installed: empty = FSX boxed, _P3D_V4, _P3D_V3, _P3D, _SE)
Be mindful that in AppData\Local there is another folder called "Lorby-SI" - leave that one alone.

Please keep the downloaded file safe, you have to replace it every time that you reinstall FFX, at least until there is a new version (but that will take a while)

Best regards

Hello Robert,

it seems to work fine for me. What region are you trying to download?

Best regards

Still working here, both options. Are you using the latest version 1.91 b02, which was released a few days ago? If you are, then delete the XML file mentioned above, just in case. If you are on a previous version, did you update the XML file as instructed in my post above?

Best regards

Just to be clear, the URLs have indeed changed on the NASA site. But as of now, the old ones are still working, at least on my end.

Before I can update to the new URLs I need to check out the files first, if the contents can still be parsed. There is also a new option for a different set of VIIRS data.

Best regards

Hello Robert,

I have incorporated the new URLs and the additional datasource into a new version of FFX - and I could use some help testing this. If you are interested, please send me an email.

Best regards
