Cool engine picture...

Took this pic a few weeks ago early in the morning on Stand 54 at Manchester Airport as I was working on an Air France Airbus A320. The rising sun, which was behind the aircraft, was shining through the high bypass duct of the engine and illuminating the fan blades from behind. I thought it looked pretty cool:

You might notice some numbers written on the fan blades in marker. These are there because, although the blades are precision made, they still have to be balanced out so that no blade weighs noticeably more or less than any of the others, as would put an eccentric strain on the fan assembly as it spun at high speed. The balancing is done by placing blades of similar exact weight opposite one another in the arrangement, but any fan blade which is a little bit heavier and cannot be matched in this way, has a small amount of polishing done to it to remove some of the metal, in order to get it to match the others in weight.

Here's the aircraft having pushed out a few minutes later with the tug about to disconnect. You can see why that low sun was shining through the rear of the engine which made the first picture possible.:
