River Rhine, Part I

This is the first part of a three-part tour along the river Rhine from its ending at the North Sea upstream to its beginning in the Swiss Alps.

Part I departs from Rotterdam Airport (EHRD) and we will basically follow the Rhine (which in the Netherlands builds a delta with two main arms. They are called Waal and Maas). We make landings at Haemstede (EH04), Emmerich (ES65), Wesel (EDLX), Krefeld (EDLK), Leverkusen (EDKL), Monchsheide (E064), Winningen (EDRK) and finally at Langenlonsheim (EDEL).

Aircraft: The trip has 290 nm with 8 landings. The main purpose is sightseeing, so a slower GA plane would be sufficient. I will take my A2A C-182, please fly what you like.

Scenery: We will be flying in the Netherlands and Germany. ORBX Netherlands True Earth is recommended but not required. To get the most of the scenery I recommend ORBX GEN and GES. All airports are enhanced over the default ones, no further scenery is required.

Time and weather: We should try the actual wx. If it is unsuitable we could switch to January 31,2020, 10:00 local. Please set your departure time to 14:45 local.

Great route. Europe's largest port at Rotterdam. Massive Thyssen Krupp steel works in Duisburg. Bridges that beg to be inspected. And three (perhaps more) castles on the banks of the Rhine. ...

How much of the route is in the Netherlands?  Is it worth buying true earth Netherlands?

Brian,

Only the first two legs are in the Netherlands. If you don't fly there much it's probably not worth buying True Earth Netherlands just for this flight.

Yeah. I think I’ll skip it. I have GEN & GES and the Europe LC. Good enough.

This scenery is BIG... I ended up buying a new SSD just for it alone..
