I’m assuming it is the aircraft selection screen.  Notice the empty space behind and besides the aircraft.  This tells me this hangar could fit everything up to the 747-8 we’ve seen.

Oh right, you could be right. That was what I was afraid of. Not exactly what I wanted then.

Well two things that stand out to me as someone who is trying very hard to be an adult and not get too excited over a lot of eye candy.

1. That hanger shot just kind of blew my mind!! Wow that is impressive. Like others just took a while to decide if it was a real world picture or in Sim.

2. 😲That hanger shot just kind of blew my mind!! Wow that is impressive. Like others just took a while to decide if it was a real world picture or in Sim.

LOL!!

Indeed, I stand corrected ! I'm truly amazed.

Here's a comparison with Bing:

XThpjME.jpg

Nightlights.jpg

looks strange because the windows are too big. if you compare the closest large day lit building with the night lit one. the night lit one has like 10 floors when it should have 50.

Oh man, I am still impressed. (Except for blue and pink and  red)

Couldnt give a hack about  50 or 29 floors  You are the only one who is going to notice it anyway

That's why I said make it optional.  "Or turn it off entirely."

Why would you want a free camera when you could have an avatar, and walk around in the world?

Yes, all good if it's optional.

As for the second thing, why? Because an avatar is slow and can only move horizontally. A free camera moves in all directions. And it's not used to "pretend" to be an avatar. Have you ever used it in XP? I find it extremely useful for checking the scenery out, the clouds, take custom shots at parked planes and so on.

They've already confirmed the hanger shots are in game. So it may be the selection screen as well, but it's still the graphics engine driving it.

There are going to have to be compromises. They can't coneivably size correct every window on every photogrammetry building. It looks fine in game.

This looks fine:

That MSFS2020 night shot needs a lot of work to be remotely close to fine, it looks like my niece got loose with some florescent ink.

hanger looks phenomenal, possibly a photo with the plane in though.

I know this is Alpha, and isn't it also the first time we have seen lights in buildings?  So it does look good.  The street lights look great.

But I agree with mSparks.  (Although I would like to see his niece do this)  The building lights look off.  😉  Maybe because they are too big, maybe because there isn't enough variation, maybe because all the building lights are on.  It just doesn't look as photo realistic as the daylight screenshots have looked.

But it is Alpha, and I think a first pass.

I prefer the MSFS "Alpha" shot. Before the comparison shot I didn't even notice the night lit windows were too large. I agree they do appear to be too large on various buildings. But what counts for me is the overall impression. And the overall impression IS fine (understatement) and (at least in my opinion) better than the above screenshot (X-Plane?). Btw it's also hard to tell if it's really too large windows or just a repetitive lights-on pattern throughout several floors.

trust me you dont.

Her preferred chaos is kissing the white walls with that stupid fluorescent lipstick.

having finally gotten round to also watching the leak videos Im torn.

Those clouds are actually pretty awful. AC7/truesky is lightyears ahead. Flight model actually reminds me of ace combat.

There are moments when things look absolutely stunning, and that framerate on a 1080 is much better than I expected. still some noticable stutters however yes, alpha.

But my biggest fear on the visuals really seems to be panning out - Asobo artists specialise in highly coloured shiney that makes the kids happy, that is completely at odds with realism. That night shot is a really good example of that, the runway in the video is too.

Time will tell I guess, But I just decided to buy PSMove controllers and Beat Saber instead for now, That Otterworldly video just sold me it. Im still a very long way from buying back into MSFT.

I am not going to discuss unofficial releases.  And I am smart enough not to judge them based on those either.

That second screenshot looks a bit boring compared to the other one.

I do not disagree.

But not sure flight sim is the right genre for people who find landscapes boring.

And personally I find those helipads on the roofs of the skyscrapers quite exciting.

What about the overhead lights in the hanger continuing as reflections in the wall/door.  Think I will need a GPU with ray tracing capabilities!
