Does Radar Contact work with P3D v4.5?

Recommended Posts

I've tried many offline atc addons.  I feel like Pilot 2 ATC feels "disconnected" from the sim and lacks immersion for me.   I love Pro ATC but the approach issues consistently plague this addon sending me on wild goose chases in different directions because it doesn't know how to Vector an approach properly.

1. How is Radar Contact with the realism and does it vector approaches properly and accurately?

2. Does it work with Prepar3d v4.5?

Thank you in advance!

RC4 works fine with P3D v3 and v4 (all versions) plus FSX (all versions). It vectors you from 40nm out from the destination airport and the only time you need to proceed with caution is in mountainous areas when the NOTAMS checkbox should be ticked.

Appreciate it Ray, thanks!

Ray does P3D V4.5 need FSUIPC installed first before RC4 works ? Thanks !

In my opinion RC is the best for "immersion and simplicity" but let me says this after years of my quest for ATC, no sim industry ATC will vector you with 100% accuracy, but RC does a darn good job at it.

Right now I keep practicing a flight from KBWI/KISP until I get it right with RC PMDG737 with the HUD and ActiveSky at night and it's flight sim heaven right now.

If you want to see the immersion I keep watching this vid, basically that's how it is.

@FPStewy, you seem to have a good understanding of RC4 although I’m curious why you stayed in HDG mode for much of the flight instead of LNAV. Congrats on making the 40nm / 12,000ft restriction. That is one if the trickier elements especially when the controller decides you have to make 11,000ft for a far-side which still baffles me. Bug in the code! 😁

Ray that not my vid but the more and more I use RC4 the more I like it. I keep practicing a similar short flight with a 737 + hud + RC4 and it's enjoyable. I'm tweaking recording it with OBS and I'll see if I can post it.

One thing RC4 can't do is just taking off and flying VFR + sectionals but with the default ATC and it's ok.

Stewy, ah right, I thought it was. But then I noticed it was a couple of years old. Given RC4 is for IFR flights it’s not surprising it doesn’t handle VFR as well as some would like.

After many years of RC4, I have now got into the habit of descending "manually" as soon as instructed to descend. If I set it to around 17/1800 fpm, I usually end up being within reach of the 11000ft or 12000ft target without having to dive at 3000fpm +.😄

Much more comfortable for my passengers as well.

I follow a different procedure with my PMDG737 flights. RC always wants me to start down before the ToD on the CDU. I commence a 200fpm manual descent when instructed which is the minimum descent rate that keeps RC happy. Having entered the 280/120 restriction into the CDU it's just a case of waiting for the ToD point to arrive at which point I select VNAV and the autopilot does the rest. I've started to use 240/110 as it's easier to make a shallower descent than a steeper one should FL120 be the restriction.

For Concorde flights I use a different procedure. Unless 200fpm climb rate is maintained RC complains. But in real flights it would often be as low as 50fpm. Easy. I just select Turbulence option and the vertical watchdog is turned off. 😁

after listening to a few "real pilot" vids it seems that this is normal because the more you maintain the higher altitude the more fuel efficient, and PMDG probably made this normal also. Although it does seem a bit steep for a sim and I agree with RC to start down at the pilots discretion which makes it a tad smother descent.

You'd better not buy Concorde should it become available for 64-bit sims. The descent rate starts at a leisurely 1,000-2000 fpm but on reaching Mach 1.5 the reduction of thrust plus the requirement to maintain 350kts results in a descent rate of 4000-5,000fpm.

And if you thought that was hairy wait until Mach 1 is reached because all the power comes off then resulting in a descent rate of up to 8,000fpm. I have seen it touch 10,000fpm briefly. The world's fastest commercial aircraft and probably the most exciting! 😁

I just posted my first YT video focusing on RC4 not my flying skills, it's a short flight with P3Dv45 in the 737-300. The HUD with low night time visibility was kinda awesome.
