Yeah, but that would be boring.

I'm not sure there is anything more entertaining than getting the great unwashed to panic about this years seasonal flu outbreak. Its not quite to the comic standard of the radio version of "war of the worlds". But its close.

As long as Asobo keeps the TV switched off I'm sure they'll be fine, and anyway, they are based in France, must be a national holiday for the next few months there by now anyway.

I'm not sure you understand how viruses spread.

Apparently one of the first signs of being infected with COVID-19 is showing signs of delusion.😏

Don't be negative !  The good thing is to see that some people who are specialist in  aerodynamics and simulation are also  knowledgeable in epidemiology. The MSFS forum has one heck of a polymath, maybe two.  Can't wait for the discussion on the interpretations of quantum mechanics.

This is a very serious situation globally as it continues to grow and get worse day after day after day. Take a look at how governments and organizations are responding to this and compare that to how governments and organizations respond to the common flu.

At the moment one tenth of the global population is under some sort of quarantine with 750 million people in China in some level of quarantine. Many football/soccer matches in many countries (Japan, China, Italy, etc.) are being cancelled or played behind closed doors with no spectators, several global business conferences are being cancelled or scaled back, cancellation of the summer Olympics is being discussed, flights and other travel to and from Coronavirus hot spots are being cancelled or severely curtailed, stock markets around the world are plummeting, schools are being temporarily closed, houses of worship are cancelling worship events, etc., etc., etc.

The reaction to the coronavirus is vastly different than the reaction to the common flu. I will listen to what the experts say, but I will also see with open eyes what governments and organizations do. This soon-to-be-pandemic is not something to smugly scoff at and discount as nothing more than the common flu. Otherwise the reaction would not be what it is.

This will become endemic and be part of a new normal for human life. But until they develop the annual vaccine for this like we have for the influenza, it will hit the world economy hard. Lots of lost business, travel restrictions, etc. Life expectancy of humans will be reduced as people become more vulnerable to succumbing to it as they age.

It's the low mortality that makes the spread so dangerous.  Viruses that kill their hosts (like SARS, MERS and the Avian Flu) quickly limit their ability to replicate.  Here we're looking at the possibility of something that spreads widely, with asymptomatic contagion now documented.  That's a big reason why containment is no longer a possibility.

The following article - I think it may be behind a paywall, so apologies for that - is worth reading, or tracking down in the print publication when it hits.  Harvard epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch makes some of the points I noted above and discusses the prospects for vaccine development (limited).

There's also discussion about the need for a rapid, well funded international response.

It's not just another flu.

Things will improve when we are all replaced by robots.  Think about it.  No bacteria or viruses or heart disease or cancer or pandemics.  No more pain.   No more paychecks to worry about or groceries to buy.  Robots are immune to climate change.   A dead, junked robot is immediately replaced by a newer model taken off the shelf.  Crime should stop as well as jealousy, hate, and maybe even war.

I wonder if robots have fun?

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Just an info, Germany, Switzerland, Austria got hit now too, those sick people have been infected while on holiday in Milan Italy.
I don't want to know how many other people they had contact with on the journey home...
This is not a joke, today ive seen panic buying of food (long shelf life food no fresh food) for the first time here.

Bad news

You seem to know about the specific places where the virus will spread. Could you please tell me when we should expect to see it in Broward County, Florida, USA?

One of the way to fight against pandemic disease is to prevent panic and stop spreading fear

Finally a voice of reason.  Thank you.

I am so tired of the media and other personalities hyping this coronavirus outbreak.  The media does it for ratings and the usual sensationalism, and others do it to create fear and panic so you'll buy their storable food, generators, water purifiers, etc. as if we're headed into a Mad Max or Walking Dead type of scenario.

The influenza virus kills thousands of people every year, even in first world countries.  Yes, this coronavirus is an especially contagious strain, but it's not anything to get in a panic over.

An epidemiologist could do that.  That's what epidemiology does.
