P3D Reinstall Needed???

Recommended Posts

I have some weird things going on in P3Dv4.5.  First, I have winter set, and when P3D is set it comes up summer time.  When I switch to the outside view and move the ailerons there is no movement.  However, I can take off and the ailerons actually to work.  But while airborne switching to the outside view and make a turn there is no movement shown on the aileron, but the airplane turns.  On the ground when in the outside view, if I move the ailerons on the RealAir Legacy, the ailerons do not move, but the spoilers pop up.  I'm totally confused as to what is going on.  Not sure if it's P3D or the Honeycomb yoke.

Two things I've occasionally done to 'reset' P3D when I have had problems.

First I'd go to the P3D root folder and run "Deletegeneratedfiles.exe"

and if that doesn't fix it, I run the P3D installation file and choose the option

to repair Prepar3D.

I either case I have found that my addons and saved files are virtually untouched.

I cannot remember the last problem I had with Prepar3D but I do recall that

one or the other of these fixes has virtually always worked for me.

Caveat! Once you do the above P3D will regenerate files. If you have any prepar3d.cfg tweaks

you need to reapply them. When you start P3D for the first time you will have to reactivate all your

addons. Any addon you have that has its own external configuration program or app you will need to run.

for example ORBX central etc. AIG AI manager if you use that and remove the TrafficAircraft.bgl to get ride of default AI

Scenery that is installed directly into the sim like fly tampa ned to be reinstalled.

There is a bit of due diligence but its much much faster than a complete re-install of the sim and addons but as far as I can see

delivers the same result.

Avidean, Thanks for the info.  Got a feeling I'm going to need to do what you have suggested.  I have a boat load of Orbx scenery.  Not quite sure how to reactivate it.  Will I need to reinstall it?  Could you please give me a little more detail?  Thanks again for your help.

Is your Orbx scenery installed in its own directory?

Some is but a lot is in P3D. I have an external hard drive that I have put P3D on.  I have Orbx scenery on my internal hard drive but running out of space so I started putting it in P3D on the external hard drive.  Probably not a good idea to put it in P3D.  Is there any way I can  migrate all of my Orbx scenery into one folder on my external hard drive and put it all in one folder without causing a nightmare?

Sorry, I think your problem is above my pay grade. It sounds like your installation is atypical. You could try what I have suggested above but do it at your own risk.

If you are considering a complete reinstall then trying what I have suggested above first is wise since if it doesn't work you are no worse off.

You might want to wait for someone else with an alternative strategy to weigh in.

Often, a boogered-up default flight scenario is behind this sort of a mess.

Before you take a wrecking ball to your configuration by removing all the generated files, try this:  start into the scenario screen, load one of the L-M-provided P3D acft like the F35, on a default (e.g. not an add-on) airfield, with the battery and avionics power switches on.  Then tick the "default" check box to make it your default flight and save it.  Get out of P3D, and start anew.

And, generally speaking, it's not a good idea to make your default flight start with an add-on acft or an add-on airfield.  There are a bunch of hidden sim variables that get initialized behind-the-scenes with those default birds.

Will do, thanks for the help.  Appreciate it.

Just wanted to say that I don't know if it makes any difference but I always start with the F-35 at Eglin AFB then select what airplane I want to fly.  Just opened up P3D with the L-M AC11 and everything is working perfectly.  Now if I can get it to work with my add on airplanes.

An update to the problem.  After hours and hours of weeping and nashing of teeth I believe I have found a conflict with chaseplane.  Chaseplane opens when I open P3D.  I have found that if I close chaseplane and reopen it all seems to be well with all of my payware airplane flight controls.  Would never have suspected this but this seems to work.

Update to the Update:  Nothing seemed to work, not even closing and reopening Chaseplane.  I finally deleted the P3D "client" and reinstalled it.  Problem fixed.
