Help w/ restoring mouse middle button control of mouse look

Featured Replies

Hello All,

In P3D v3.4 and FSX before I used MS intellipoint software to get the middle button on the mouse to generate the Shift-O keystroke that enables mouse look.  When I'm on the Win 10 desktop the version 8.2 Intellipoint 64-bit does work fine to do program-specific actions, but in P3D 4.5 it just doesn't work.  I have a very long history of the convenience of simply pressing the middle mouse button to pan and zoom, but can't do it now.  My first thought was the FSUIPC should easily do this but alas I see no way to make the mouse button deliver a key combination or keystroke--just mouse 'macros' and I don't know if that could work also.  There is a check box under the Misc tab to enable mouse look, but it is not the same at all as when you do mouse look thru a keystroke such as the Space Bar or Shift-O, the default key commands for this action.  It's an old MS optical mouse USB.

Any ideas on how to get this working?

Thanks!

Noel

Isn't this feature a part of FSUIPC (Miscellaneous Tab)?
Works fine here in FSX with no need for an external mouse assignment program to control it.

Thanks for that Spokes but that is a totally different effect than what happens when you hit space-O which I think is the default key but assignable combination in the controls interface in FSX/P3D.  With FSUIPC your mouse is always in look mode, plus the panning is linear and mechanical in it response to hand motion, whereas the in-sim version which I was turning off and on with middle mouse button, is fluid and natural.  What was fabulous about the latter is that one can look and zoom with one hand and that is a habit I have going now since when FSX original debuted.

I don't know about P3D but in FSX it works exactly how you describe - while pressing the middle button, mouse look is active, and just as smooth as using the space bar / mouse. Not mechanical & definitely not on all the time.Use it on every flight - one handed.

A way to be sure is just pan very briskly and stop abruptly:  does the panning take a moment to 'catch up' as it were?  I get this in the in-sim mouse look but not in FSUIPC's method.  I'll try one more time and see if for some reason I missed what you're describing.

Just did a test using FSUIPC mouselook to confirm all -
VC view: X = crisp, Y = crisp, Zoom = very small delay
"spot" view: X = large "catch up" delay, Y = large "catch up" delay, Zoom = very small delay
"locked spot" view: X = crisp, Y =crisp, Zoom = very small delay
Since day 1 never liked, nor never used the plain "spot" view.
A short video is here. (computer at 130% 👎 while capturing so slight audio & 1 video corruption)

Hi Spokes, nope, same issue as I described.  After unchecking the ML box in FSUIPC check if the default shift-O key toggles Mouse Look (if not, map it in-sim controls).  Panning quality is so much more natural with in-sim mouse look it's just no contest at all.  I'm stumped apparently something in P3D v4.x is hijacking control over what the middle mouse button does.  This is really a major annoyance for me, so much so if I can't fix it I may go back to v3.4!  I can live w/ using the spacebar or some other key assignment for mouse look but that means it's a 2 hand operation which is hardly desirable as you know.

I did write a script using AutoHotKey, and it too is hijacked when P3D 4.5 is the active window!  LM ought to be able to figure this out but alas they don't seem to provide support, though they happily took my $199 to upgrade to 4.5.
