FSX default looks better than FS9 - and my FPS is Avg 20FPS

Featured Replies

OK, of course the below is just my opinion (my personal taste of FSX and FS9).I've finally been able to purchase FSX Deluxe. I've used Demo1 and Demo2 with good FPS results. As others have reported, the FPS in the Retail version is in general lower that Demo2.I applied the FIBER_FRACTION tweak, Matt's autogen tweak, etc.To be honest, I only detected about a 2-5 FPS increase with thesetweaks.I keep FPS at Unlimited. All settings/sliders are set to the MAX (far right) with the exception of these:Display - 1024x768Trilinear (no Anti Alias checked)NO - Light BloomWater Effects - Low 2.x(Strange, for me, the Low 2.x and High 1.x showed about the sameFPS, but the 2.x looks better)AutoGen - NormalCloud Draw - 60 miles (the defaults used in the form)Land & Sea - Road, Leisure Boats, Ships & Ferries = 20%Both Airline and GA traffic density set to 25%I flew in KSEA. Yes - my FSX is in the single digit FPS and stutters on takeoff. My FS9 install which is locked at 30FPS maintains that throughout this area. All my FS9 sliders/setting are at Max (to the far right). However, after takeoff, FSX will reach the mid teens in FPS and as I fly West (South of downtown Seattle), my FPS will reach 20FPS or higher. But, for me, the default versions cannot compare. FSX is MUCH better looking. My FS9 autogen trees look cartoonish compared to FSX. But, with the new detailed scenery, at my home town airport of Lake In The Hills, IL (3CK), FSX is FAR superior. The roads are correct! I can now have the detail that only FS9 addons would provide. So, while my FS9 flies a bit smoother (again locked at 30FPS and it holds that in almost all situations except large cities and high AI traffic), FSX looks better to me.I'm sure I'll continue to tweak and adjust FSX to gain more FPS. What I do like is the ability to quickly change .cfg files, so depending upon where I fly, I can increase/descreas AI, Autogen, etc.My PC:Dell Dimension 8400 (2 years old)Pentium 4, 3.4GHZ3GB RAMNvidia GeForce 680019" LCD MonitorWindows XP SP2+++++My .cfg file[GRAPHICS]TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024NUM_LIGHTS=8AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1LANDING_LIGHTS=1AC_SELF_SHADOW=0EFFECTS_QUALITY=2GROUND_SHADOWS=0[sCENERY]LENSFLARE=1DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5[DISPLAY]BLOOM_EFFECTS=0SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0[PANELS]QUICKTIPS=1PANEL_OPACITY=100[TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=100MESH_RESOLUTION=25TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29AUTOGEN_DENSITY=2DETAIL_TEXTURE=1WATER_EFFECTS=4[WEATHER]CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=3DETAILED_CLOUDS=1CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8THERMAL_VISUALS=1DownloadWindsAloft=0DisableTurbulence=0[TrafficManager]AirlineDensity=25GADensity=25FreewayDensity=20ShipsAndFerriesDensity=20LeisureBoatsDensity=20IFROnly=0AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=5JerryG
