P3D v5 is DX12

So under 4K DX12 has better performance and at 4K the difference is so marginal that it will be not noticeable for end user, now what you need to understand is that converting from DX11 to Vulkam would be much more work than to DX12.. and DX12 has very nice features.. google Nvidia flow.. and ray tracing..

Ah, so that's where the 2080 users will benefit. I held back from paying another 500GBP over my 1080Ti as there was no indication when ray tracing would be introduced. So scenery designers will need to get to work then. Longish waits I suppose by which time the Nvidia 3000 cards will be out and more powerful and cheaper than 2000 so my decision is vindicated.

Here we go again. Neither Vulkan nor DX12 is going to make your hardware into a brand new super PC. LR had to go with Vulkan to maintain XP11 on multiple platforms, as OpenGL was getting pretty outdated. DX12 has finally reached critical mass on the PC and there are enough epic games using it to justify the switch:

I can't wait for all the seat of the pants/shoot from the lip observations of a 50% improvement in performance.

Is there any hope that this also solves the problem of unbearable pauses during flight?

Richard.

The benefit of Vulkan (aka. Metal for Mac users) and DirectX12 is ALOT less CPU power is needed for rendering graphics, thus freeing up resources, which should speed up CPU hungry applications considerably.

The graphics code runs more directly on the GPU so to speak. This is the way to do it. Good news indeed!

I wish I would have had this software when I had my triple wide monitor setup. But moving to my single 38" monitor its not really necessary as there is virtually no stretching.

My triple wide setup the last 4 inches on the edges of both sides wound show some stretching.

Good find though. Looking forward to V5. I have too much $ invested into Prepar3d at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if this just dropped all of a sudden in the next couple of weeks or a month. LM surely want to get the jump on MS/Asobo. The longer their product is on the market before the release of MSFS the better for them. Because if its a choice between P3D V5 and MSFS, me thinks a large majority of users, who won't buy bought, will buy MSFS.

Rob,

Please tell me LM is going to enforce all third party devs to be outside root directory.  I am so exhausted by files everywhere - I want to sim not tweak gzillion files.  Legacy code needs to be go to outdated software methodology hell.

If you do a clean install, yes ... but as of here and now, I'd recommend you look at which of your Add-Ons is the source of that pause ... there were only two add-on products I used that caused long pauses on approach, that was FSDT "engine" and RAASPro (especially if you have a lot of add-on airports and a large runways file).  FSDT solved their pause issue and I haven't visited RAASPro in a long time so don't know.

If you want to verify your "pause" issue, disable all add-ons (scenery, DLL.XML, EXE.XML, add-on, etc.) and see if the problem persists.  If it does, then it's likely something external OS or something running in the background (AV etc.) triggering the pauses.  But out of the box P3D 4.x has no "pauses" during flight.

Cheers, Rob.

Thank you Rob for your wise advice which allowed me a few months ago not to have a single core that reaches 100%.
I don't have any of the programs that you mentioned. By the way, I am fleeing like the plague from this RAAS which I don't understand that it even exists in real life. How a decent crew needs such a tool like this (I'm probably too much old school), end of parenthesis.

Yesterday, I made a simple flight between Justsim airports LFMN and ELLX with Aerosoft's A330. Concerning this flight, only global ORBX, FSGX2018, MCE and RC4 were involved outside the two airports (for sure it wasn't only P3D:)). It was a real festival of pause like never before, during the whole flight not only on approach...
I also use FFTF.
Your advices are precious concerning a clean install, at the moment I don't feel the courage to start from scratch. I think I'll wait for P3DV5 which will be the occasion to do a big cleaning 🙂

Regards,

Richard.

Here I use RAASpro with my Prosim setup and did not see pauses when I here announcements ....

Regarding V5 : I am a photorealistic underground + AG simmer so I hope that V5 will not have the same LC based textures as they exist since 2006 ....

I do have Europe photorealistic but the MSFS way by downloading pr tiles + AG seems the way to go for me ....
