April 9, 20206 yr [Note: Today, just to take my mind off a bit, I felt like doing an easy and relaxed flight, but this post was also (partially) triggered by my last week's acquisition of DRZEWIECKI Design's Bornholm Island (SALE) offering. So, I invite you, here, for a (virtual) tour of this beautiful island!] Imagine a piece of land, <20 miles wide and <30 miles long, geographically within very short distances of (50-100) miles from 4-5 different countries, and, been fought over, for supremacy and occupancy, for centuries, by various invaders and intruders, plundering pirates, medieval royals and religious forces, and by many different (relatively) modern-day nations too...That's (Danish) Bornholm Island, a small speck of a land in the Baltic Sea, to the east of Denmark and south of Sweden. Its present tranquillity (and my use of the term "stroll" in the subject) belies its turbulent and violent past! The island's perfectly located (central) position in the Baltic Sea made it a (strategic) lookout post and listening station during the Second World War. After WW II, on April 5, 1946, it, finally, came under the Danish Rule (for the 2nd time). It's within just (~50) miles of distance from the mainlands of: Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Poland. The island is incredibly pretty and laced with scenic roads and landscapes. With its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, sunny beaches, interesting museums, gourmet restaurants, and architecturally classic churches etc., the picturesque island attracts many visitors...(mostly from the same (nearby) surrounding countries, indicated above)... So, please find, below, a set of images from a tour of this tiny, but uniquely magnificent island - using two classic American airplanes (1) Piper Super Cub (2) Stinson SR Reliant. Please take note of the one picture of the flock of birds that I was fortunate to catch sight of around Bornholm Airport. Also, you may notice, the Windmills, in one of the tour shots. The (scenic) approach and landing is into the island's only runway (EKRN 11/29). Enjoy! Thanks for viewing!!
