VOXATC and P3d V5

Recommended Posts

Actually, it's fairly easy to make VOXATC work in P3d5. But who knows what the next update to P3d5 will do.

Below is a complete list of sloped airports in P3d5 HF1 that Jon Masterson, the author of ADE made available. What I'm thinking is creating a variant of FastCheetah702's method that replaces the entire P3d5 scenery folder with the one from P3d4. The variant would only replace the known airport APX files that have airports with sloped features. This may still give fatal errors with VOXATC since airport ICAO codes have been updated in P3d5 and there are new airports. But if the approach does work, it retains all the updates that LM made to the stock airports.

I've thought about it, but I don't want to be responsible for someone following the guide and then breaking their P3d5 setup. This thread has all the details of how to do it. It's best for most users to either stay with P3d4 or wait and see whether VOXATC is ever updated for P3d5.

Thanks, I had a look at changing the details of the exe, although I managed to get the msi changed to find p3d v5 I couldn’t get the the indexer going yet. I’m aware I’m not supposed to. So I changed it back but the indexer is now getting stuck on the weather folder

When the Indexer gets stuck on the "weather folder" it's almost always some typo/conflict in.scenery.cfg and:or one or more of the add-ons.xml.

Download Lorby's Add on Organizer and see if it finds errors. Remember, the default location for P3d add-ons in your Documents folder is different for P3d4 and P3d5.

Will download it and try again. So is the best / easiest way to rename all v5 folders to v4? And if I have v4 installed, rename them to v5 so I can keep both copies?

Hi,

I will not embark on an attempt to hack the files but apart from the fact that the designer has always been very difficult to reach on the forum, do you think that an update is predictable, does it require significant IT work on his part?

i'm awaiting "aircraft" updates so not rushing ... but watching anyway.

No files are hacked. The symbolic links just point VOXATC to the correct folders for P3d5.

To answer your question, VOXATC would require changes to support sloped runways, but other than that, the changes are minor.

I’m ready to move to p3d v5 today now everything else is working, can you give a quick walk through what I need to do?

if I rename v4.5 to old(does that include all folders in app data, products data etc)

then rename everything from p3d v5 to v4?

i saw your above post about symlink, what do I need to do with that? And do I need to edit the ref to change names or is that what the symlink does? Never used symlink a before so I apologise for all the questions

I'm just wondering if anyone is still using VOXATC with P3d5 HF1? There are reports of problems with SimConnect and P3d5 on the official LM forums, so the random lack of AI aircraft with VOXATC could be caused by P3d5 itself.

Also, fsaerodata has been updated at no adidtional cost for P3d5, as has ASP3D, although both releases still in beta. Most likely more problems might occur with P3d5 this week as it is due the release for Hotfix 2 (according to LM) and the new nVidia WDDM 2.7 driver  ( the developer version is 450.99, so expect a higher main version number) will be officially released for Win 10 version 2004.

I have been persevering with VoxATC in P3Dv5. I have found that VoxATC doesn't like the 'SLOPED' flag in the AFD XML in some instances. To get around this I have been removing that line from the XML and recompiling the AFD BGL using the P3Dv4 SDK.

Interesting to hear about the SimConnect issues, which may explain the randomness of whether VoxATC wants to spawn aircraft or not.

The other thing I've noticed a lot from the VoxATC log file is the occurrence of a Thread time overrun, which results in VoxATC using between 12-20% CPU usage continuously, which has a knock-on of the performance of P3Dv5.

I've seen the thread time overrun warning in the VOXATC logfile even with P3d4. This means that a thread is not completed before the next thread is scheduled. Usually this condition results in the thread either being allowed to finish and the next thread delayed or the offending thread is terminated. Thread asynchrony is a problem with multithreaded apps but an app is commonly designed to handle this condition. The warning is displayed for the developer in order to locate where this issue is occuring.
