Will it be like before in this way

Recommended Posts

I wonder what will happen after MSFS2020 is released ? Will there be a new MSFS2022 and then MSFS2024 with new insane hardware requirements. Like earlier MSFS releases ? Or will it be more like Office 365 ?

None of us really know for sure, but they did say it was a 10 year project. I take that as it will be developed for at least 10 years, if that means updates for free or if we'll have to pay update fees, only Asobo/MS know that presently.

My opinion? Something like Euro Truck Sim. Constant updates, and official DLC's to support them.

Which DLC's? Who knows, they have the ability to make airports and aircrafts at a faster rate, so maybe packs of regions/countries with all airports improved at X€, or packs of a few aircafts cheaper than 3rd parties. Or maybe additional features, ground vehicles...

The other option? They also make a professional version of this sim, which can be sold to bigger companies/airlines, being the game sim version a showcase. Or just a showcase for the photogrammetry to be applied into other games.

There will be a lot of people interested in this sim, but I can't imagine it being sold as a GTA, reaching over 100 million copies...

Drop the "2020", the simulator is called "Microsoft Flight Simulator".

An invitation to pay more money for a better experience is what we can expect, there is no other way forward.

The only known fact is that  FS20 is running with DX11 but the team said that they would upgrade it to DX12 sometimes after the  release.

MSFS2020 do not exist. It is only MSFS. I think, that it says everything :-) It is almost certain, that there will be only one version with continuous updates, like Windows 10 or Office365.

Dx12 and Ray Tracing will be the next.

I honestly don't know what the difference between DX11 and DX12 will be, so can someone please explain what the DirectX (whatever number) is doing in / for the sim?

Taken from google "A major difference between the two APIs is that DX12 is more low-level than DX11, meaning that DX12 gives developers more fine-grained control of how their game interacts with your CPU and GPU. This is a double-edged sword: DX12 comes with fewer guardrails but gives developers more power and flexibility"

FS20 is for Android, Nintendo Switch, iOS

However, MSFS, or Microsoft Flight Simulator (as marketed), will, as it has been said) will be there for the next 10 years (at least)

Thanks, I assumed it was a graphic thing, like better Anti Aliasing, resolution etc.but what you're (Google) saying is it can use the CPU and GPU more effectiv?

In a way it's both. It allows developers to control things much more directly, so instead of having to rely on an API such as DX11 or OpenGL to interpret what they want, they can create their own code specifically tailored for their use case. It's more difficult but if done well has excellent results, as shown with the recent X-Plane 11.50 beta where the Vulkan graphics engine was shipped and people had massive performance and smoothness improvements across the board, particularly AMD graphics card users who saw even doubled FPS. This increased performance headroom obviously allows you to improve graphics, because you now have the performance headroom for it.

A lot of software is moving towards a model of a single software that is continually updated rather than releases of new, distinct versions. Microsoft Windows 10, as well as most cloud software follows this model, and I wouldn't be surprised if MSFS does as well

That quote was actually from the Fortnite team talking about their game.  You can read the whole thing.
