The new MSFS seems to offer an awful lot more so I won't be moving to P3D v5 unless there's a really compelling reason. I'm still happily working with FSX:SE and P3D v4. $60 on P3Dv5 would be $60 that I could put towards MSFS instead.

What else you would do with SIM? Tweeking makes it interesting.....

After deciding on a few simple settings, I no longer tweak the sim itself.  But I sure tweak the heck out of all my aircraft. 😄  That's half the fun of flight simming!

I have to admit being a little frustrated, Sesquashtoo!  I simply don't understand why so many of us are willing to accept the current model.  Anyway, thank you for your reply, sir.  I always find your comments to be fair and level-headed.

You were to my way of thinking, dead on, sir.  Yes..I'm now excited to try out this new embedded Water Engine...no bones about that...but...as you pointed out...there are many areas that L.M, could have upped the tab. I so agree. That aside, though, that they didn't...I see that taking the actual updates within it...it certainly as compared to any flight sim standing (and I LOVE XP11, blah, blah)...it will be no 'dog' RTM.  As most of us do...I have all the 3rdP programs that will take it to where I was happy with how v4.5 looked...so KingM56...how can I lose?  With water and environmental updated...it is truly a full WIN/WIN situation. Did I think that 36 hours ago:?  No.  Not with the official release video...that simply highlighted NOTHING!  What sold me today...was viewing Rob's video...where he DID show us everything...land/water...the terminus between them...and wink-wink, nudge-nudge,...he was flying over 3rP load in.  The all of it, by the end of the video, had me with drool running down my lips.  I am a most serious VFR guy...that loves to fly down coastlines...loves to explore secret hide-away bays....inlets...harbors...and when I saw in his video, the real-life movement of water mass driven by wind direction and wind speed, ...I practically fell out of my chair! THAT was what I should have seen when somebody posted the LM teaser trailer That is what would have sold me, right then and there....  So...I'm in...I'm excited to bring v5.0 home...and I KNOW...I will have an absolute BLAST flying within it...

Cheers,

Ses

Two of the VAs I use provide simulator statistics; to that point, FSX still accounts for 35 to 40% of the aggregate flights across both VAs.  DVA and BVA have almost 3K combined members; so, this is a pretty good sample size:

Let me ask you, do you think a significant number of simmers were using FS 5.1 when FSX was released?

I have already uninstalled P3D 4.5 and all add-ons, and reformatted my FS drive. It was something I have wanted to do in any case, as my installation has become bloated over the years with a lot of scenery and aircraft that I don’t use, and I would really like to start fresh with a completely clean slate.

Initially I want to run and test P3D V5 “completely naked”, with no add-ons whatsoever. I am particularly interested in seeing what changes have been made to default airports and nav data, and if there have been any significant changes to default terrain and land class.

My only “must reinstall” aircraft at this point (once V5 installers are ready) will be the PMDG NGXu, and QOTSII, the Leonardo Maddog and Aerosoft CRJ-Pro. Active Sky will be a must once they have a V5 installer.

I also had the ASCA cloud texture add-on from HiFi, but I don’t know if they will make a V5 version of that since I assume the new TrueSky cloud system will use a very different texture set.

I own the complete ORBX Global product range: Global textures, OpenLC and Vector. I will wait until they have fully V5 and DX-12 compatible versions before reinstalling. I suspect that Vector may not make the cut, since it was not developed in-house by Orbx, and I believe they had problems getting it updated for later versions of V4.

I also intend to commit to installing only add-ons and scenery that fully comply with the new add-on.xml way of installation outside of the core sim folders. I’m assuming PMDG will finally move to that - they have been one of the only major developers to not yet adopt that system.

In the meantime, I have XP 11.50 to play with, (where the Zibo mod is my preferred ride), as well as Aerowinx PSX.

Yep....imagine this Forum if everything goes smooth......you buy, open the box, plug in and drive....reminds me on GT for PS3....But MSFS is coming....available with Mario and Candy Crush I suppose....Not sure why I don't trust MS anymore....don't ask.

I might, if you would allow me sir, to offer a compelling reason that compelled me to be making the move on Tuesday. I am so into what I have viewed coming from MSFS2020 screen shot teasers, that it's not funny! But Holdit, quite frankly, with this Covidl-19 Pandemic ravaging the world...and with some governments stating there may be Social Distancing lock downs now extending out 24 or more months...I'm not holding my breath, on when MSFS2020, will be RTM'ed.  That being said...if you take a look at Rob's video...I mean...really second by second..take it apart, digest the action...it really does point to many great improvements from v4.5.  Atmospherics, Great Water Bodies...Cloud physics..., that for the price, honestly, for the price of one not-on-sale Orbx T.E HD region...you can pick up any and all improvements and benifts from your present P3D ownership.  That is my reasoning, sir...for I so enjoy this hobby, that I will accept any and all advancements over my CURRENT installed flight sims.  I'd rather have ownership and enjoy what comes with P3D's new v.5, than the price of one Orbx TE region, still resting in my bank account that doesn't put any smiles, any 'hoots' into the air...and certainly no "..well I'll be"!

Respects...

These percentages are only based on the number of PIREP's filed in a given month, not the number of VA members who use a particular sim nor does it take into account how many of the PIREP's in a given month are filed by the same individual. Consider March 2020, how many of the 1843 flights were flown by the same person? Just because 35% of the flights in March we're flown on FSX does not mean 35% of your VA uses FSX. Your logic is flawed, tremendously so and does not go any further in validating your claim. You'll have to do better to prove your supposed fact.

Over 2 million copies sold and the all-time concurrent players peak happened just 7 days ago. More than 6 thousand people playing at the same time: https://steamdb.info/app/314160/graphs/

As a comparison, X-plane numbers are: around 500 hundred thousand copies sold and the all-time concurrent players peak was around 4 thousand players (8 days ago): https://steamdb.info/app/269950/graphs/

Yes*
There are enough new features to entice me to upgrade. A number of these are long-standing requests that people were almost shouting at LM to bring to the title.

I'm going to get the sim that is going to keep me interested in the hobby for the next several months while I wait for MSFS to arrive.

*(This is highly dependent on whether Majestic and QualityWings bring their aeroplanes to the new version, especially since PMDG have deprecated their NGX).

Great, you have Steam numbers and sales numbers. Now where are the P3D sales numbers and amount of concurrent users using P3D to compare? If you cannot provide than you have simply showed one side of the story only and thus, gets you all no further.

Right...with each new 'V'...I bought in..and was never disappointed. I would not, not enjoy the new features...for $60.00 or so, not being paid out.  Myself anyway.  If I didn't see value, though...that there were no truly new elements, never-before-seen installments within the version...I would NOT have bothered to get it,...for the "meh..." factor would have kicked in.,..even if it was going to $5.00.   As I said in a prior post...if something represented in the new version, doesn't cause any anticipatory or sheer excitement/emotional response, then heck...move on...nothing to see there,...but if it does...procure it!

What you asked for:

Those steam numbers provide what you asked. Having 6k people using it concurrently is huge, even more for a niche software like FSX. There are AAA games with lower numbers than that.

Also you can see the other charts, FSX is raising its number not lowering, which is odd for a really old software.
