Welcome to the 1.2.10 version of the Microsoft Flight Simulator Alpha!

In this update you’ll find a description of the new content we’ve added, bugs we’ve addressed, and an updated list of known issues.

We know many of you have been waiting to fly jets, and today we’re incredibly excited to announce the wait is over!

In close partnership with Airbus, we’re proud to release the Airbus A320 for community testing. This is a key step in our development process as we work together with the community to finalize this aircraft for launch.

Though this is the first version of the plane, we hope you will help test many of the systems we’ve already included. For example:

  • Fly by Wire system including some of the flight-envelope protection features and new airliner-specific autopilot and auto-throttle functions.
  • MCDU (flight computer)
  • FCU (Autopilot control panel) functions implemented.
  • SID’s and STAR’s
  • High altitude flight
  • Long range missions
  • Land with autobrake and ground spoilers
  • Newly implemented ground handling features such as jetways, refueling trucks, baggage and catering, pushback and ground power carts.

There are some complex systems in the aircraft that we did not include at this stage in order to ensure focus on the ones that were ready to be tested. You should expect that some indications may be missing or not final, and some displays may show anomalies. Many of the autopilot and auto-throttle functions work but some are still WIP. You will be able to fly ILS and visual approaches, but full approach functionality is not included in this version. Expect updates to the MSDU functionality and audio during our next round of updates.

It has been an incredible experience partnering with Airbus to bring the A320 to the next iteration of Microsoft Flight Simulator. And we are looking forward to working with the community to ensure the very best flight simulation experience across all our aircraft.

thank you for this positive news, because unfortunately my thoughts about P3D v5 seem to be confirmed (at the moment, don't hope it will stay that way and don't want to bad-mouth P3D ok) !

Looks like they're aiming for a study level A320. That's insane if they can provide that out of the box.

They are making a lot of progress now between builds.  And that list, including the missing things, just shows how much detail this will have.

I keep getting blown away.

My brother has Coronavirus, confirmed by testing. On 3/26 he almost didn't survive the night.  He had extreme trouble breathing and was given a steroid inhaler.  He was very weak, had nausea, and other issues that aren't pleasant.  As of this update he is feeling much better, and seems he will be fine.  Stay safe out there.  (Updated 4/6)

I wish them well with the A320. Would be awesome to have a solid jet out of the box. Doesn't need to be down to the voltage, just a normal flight from A to B, but please, impress us if you must!

Interesting. So I guess this puts down the rumours that the simulator will have the system complexity of an arcade game due to the programming language used?

Of course not, we still have people saying there will be a paid subscription to have access to the online scenery, among other missinformations.

Sounds wonderful.  I'm not in the alpha so I can't partake in any of this goodness, but I look forward to trying it all towards the end of the year when I buy the sim.

might do.

If that list wasn't all the things and more that were explained to be near impossible to do the way they were suggesting addon developers will have to do it...

To me, it just looks like they went through the webassembly thread and wrote down the exact problem caused by every criticism.

And they haven't even started any of the actual hard stuff yet, like autoland.

Enough with the 'study-level' nonsense. 'If' they can? Of course they can, and they will, and in record time (in comparison with the add-on companies).

Yes, it does need to be 'down to the voltage'. Everything must be better, and will be better, than everything that was available before.

It is a new simulator, and the goal is to make it the best flight simulator on the market. Full stop.

A computer user can be a gamer, or a simmer, or both. Having fun with a simulator does not mean that the simulator ceased being a simulator and is now a game. Simulators are not played, simulators are used. Simulators are simulators, and games are games. A software product could be both. In the case of MSFS, from https://www.flightsimulator.com/june-20th-2019/"We are making Microsoft Flight Simulator. Emphasis on the word SIMULATOR."
