Compatibility with P3D V5?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Are some updates planned?

I can only select V4

I guess there is no difference between v4 and v5. Select the base path and scenery.cfg manually in the load scenery database dialog and try it out.
Let me know if this helps since I don't have P3D.

Update is planned but far from finished yet.

I have tried that, but as the only sims I have installed is x-plane11 and P3Dv5, v4 is uninstalled, then the dialog only shows x-plane. Untill now I have not found a way to load the v5 scenery.

Of course I could try to install v4 again. 😀

You can try to use this file here: https://www.littlenavmap.org/downloads/Other/P3DV4 fake installation.zip

From the included readme:

Quote

This file fakes a Prepar3D v4 installation which allows LNM to read the
scenery library on computers that have only Prepar3D v5 installed.

Be aware that this will also affect installation programs for add-ons which
will offer a Prepar3D v4 install. Obviously do not install into the fake v4.

Open the included file "P3DV4.reg" and check if the installation path is correct.
Note that the file uses UTF-16 encoding. Thefore, use the default Windows
text editor. Third party editors might not work or corrupt the file.

If the installation path is ok, simply double click the file to import it
into the registry.

I have to dig through the P3D v5 SDK documentation and check how much effort it is to adapt LNM. Gotta see if I can make a small release which adds only v5 compatibility (i.e. 2.4.5) or if I  include it in the next big release 2.6 (there is no 2.5 - odd numbers are only internal releases). No idea. Currently buried in other tasks.

That made it possible to compile the database, but the format of the scenery appears to be different.

I will try to send you the log files, but I can live with the v4 database, I use my backup.

And thank you for your help.

I had the pleasant surprise of seeing my plane on a P3Dv5 flight in LNP. I specify that P3Dv4 is still installed. In any case the P3Dv5/LNM communication works.

I wonder if this is causing a problem trying to load P3Dv5 library in LNM?

Thank you for the confirmation. At least one thing less to fix.

Thanks for the link. I still have to check how deep the change goes. There were small changes to the BGL format in the past too but these were no problem to adapt.
The biggest nuisance is that the scenery library format of P3D is not officially documented and not open at all compared to e.g. X-Plane or FlightGear.

I have to finish some other work on LNM before and will look at this as next.

Hello,

I did as proposed

"

BUT negative result LNM generates a popup

"Cannot read Base path "" reason Directory does not exist"

Hi Emile,

you have to create the path manually.

But you cannot read the scenery library anyway since LM changed something in the BGL format. See above. But you can still connect and use your P3D v4 scenery database.
