PILOT's FS Global

I've tried to contact Pilot's via email, but have no received a response

yes, it really is, poor customer support and high product prices...

their previous mesh(FS Global Ultimate - Next Generation/FTX2018) had many problems that no one has yet to fix, instead they just released another new product.

and in many ways the freemesh 2.0 was better and absolutely free!

I have not done so yet, because it appears that default P3D V5 mesh is higher-resolution than P3D V4 default

yes it seems so, now you will not get as many impressions of the new mesh as it was before

If you log into your Pilots account there's a way to add all your orders by codes. Once your order history is created you can then get special pricing.

Sorry my friend, that's simply not true. All my former mesh products (since 2005!) including FSG Ulitimate NG (DL) from Pilot's are already registered at Pilot's. But they don't even mention that there is a new product. Check it please and prove me wrong. I' wont pay the full prize at Simmarket - by no means. The prizes from pilot's are too high anyway. I've paid some hundred Euros over the years. Support from Mr. S. = zero. Enough is enough!

According me:

PILOT'S FSG - FS GLOBAL ULTIMATE - NEXT GENERATION FTX FSX P3D FSW - not big or not any differences, not a big reason to update it (but price is nice for update).
PILOT'S FSG - FS GLOBAL 2018 FTX FSX P3D FSW - big diferences (price of update is nice also).

BUT better mesh (1m) means = problem with scenery with 5m like for example ORBX Regions. They build every time, so from long and medium distance looks ok, when you will be near the same point sim checks again the LOD and builds new mesh again it look like the globe is working every time. Personally I dont like it.

It looks like this (example 1 and 5 meters during flight on the same system, ORBX Region + Pilot's Mesh 1m ) :

Very good description of "too" good mesh. Is this "terrain working" still present in v5?

I dont know, I havent v5 yet but I guess the same ....

When you are closer - sim alweys takes better resolution of mesh according LOD and Radius. Result - working terrain (plus some textures also, especially in the mountains).

it is extremely easy to make it active in P3D V5, by simply manually inserting the folders into scenery.cfg. (I kept a copy of the scenery.cfg from my previous V4 installation as a reminder of where the Pilot’s mesh should go.

Actually, since P3D v4 you don't need to edit scenery.cfg file. You have an option in menu 'Add on scenery' where you can easily add it from there. Also position for mesh is not important. It can be placed anywhere. P3D loads all meshes from all scenery layers and uses the one with best resolution.

That's one of the "features" I have been hating about Prepar3d since version 1. It's specific fort the FSX/ESP engine, as neither X-Plane nor AeroflyFS sport this living terrain. It's even observable using lower-resolution mesh, albeit not that pronounced.

Thanks for the "nice" presentation, bookmarked for reference.

Kind regards, Michael

WOW they don't do this for their mesh products. I received an e-mail a few months ago encouraging me to create an account and add my order info as well as to buy directly from them. The letter said (paraphrase) that there would be discounts with the implication that I should buy directly from them to cut the middle man.

I have FSGRW and I still use in XP11 and they had a generous upgrade price from FSX/XP10. I also have Pilot's airports and they also offered a special intro price for their LEST. I have never had any issues with Pilot's except for what I've read here & FTX Vectors which needs some tender love and care, so I thought that Pilot's also offered discounts for their mesh products. I was wrong! Thanks for clarifying.

One thing I can say is that the “NG” version of the Global Ultimate mesh, was a definite improvement over the original Global Ultimate in terms of performance when loading the sim. The original Ultimate Mesh would cause the sim to pause for quite some time at the 6 percent point during initial start-up (about 30-40 seconds) before proceeding. The NG version had a much shorter pause at the 6 percent point. As I recall, the NG mesh was re-worked for 64 bit P3D (Version 4). If the new “update” has additional features specifically designed for P3D V5, I’d consider paying the small fee for the upgrade, but there is no information one way or the other at the developer’s own web site.

I still have the mesh folders from my P3D V4 installation of Global Ultimate NG sitting on my FS hard drive. I haven’t manually activated them yet in V5, because the default mesh does seem to be higher resolution, but I’m not sure how much higher...

If you have serial code like me on Pilot's website, you'll be able to upgrade for the smaller amount, I had 2018 before bought from Flightsimstore before it went to liquidation. Bear in mind that Pilot's go to store is Simmarket anyway, so you should be good 🙂

I already own the Ultimate NG mesh for P3DV4. Unless there is a difference in in the actual mesh itself for P3DV5 compared to the previous P3DV4 version, (and I suspect there is not), I can’t see the point in paying even the small 15 Euro upgrade price if all that really does is give you a new installer to link the existing mesh folders to the P3DV5 scenery library. I can do that manually in just a few moments for free.

There is nothing on the Pilot’s web site to indicate what (if anything) might be different about the “2020” NG mesh over the previous version, other than making it P3DV5-aware.

+1, is this a new up to date data set, or payment to create a new installer which recognises the new sim version? I own this product but find the product line frustrating with the multiple versions of what seems to be the same product
