Weather control in P3Dv5

I'm sure they know about the problem. Since the weather is the basis of aviation.

Stephen at OpusFSI posted about some weather injection problems in the P3D SDK forum--he says that there is a bug in P3Dv5 that prevents wind direction at altitude injected into the sim from being acted on.  Also, he says that when surface winds are updated, they are intermittently cycling to a continuous slow shift from the last wind to the new target without ever reaching the new target direction.  And apparently each time weather at a wx station is changed, even one distant enough to be over the visible horizon, the sky/clouds flicker.  LM has not answered his concerns there.

I'm also wondering why we haven't seen a beta for ActiveSky--usually those guys are right there when a new version releases, since they are on the LM beta team and presumably have been working it all along.  Damian has posted a "we're working on it" statement on the HiFisim forum, but there's not much in the way of specifics there.

Hope this gets sorted quickly...spiffy TrueSky clouds don't do much if there's no reliable mechanism available to control the wx.  This is the long pole in the tent right now for me--just can't see going back to the days of wind shifts and flaky wx.

Thank You for posting this information. This is what I was waiting to hear. I`m not touching v5 until Active Sky is functional. For now DCS does everything else for me even though I was an avid P3Dv4 supporter.

Yeah I'm having the same issue with injected weather with FSXWX, the window just keeps randomly changing directions.

Does someone knows how to deactivate the wind in FSXWX or to deactivate its effect in P3D

I’m going to try the free FSXWX later tonight, just to see what happens. I doubt that program would even have the ability to inject winds aloft. For those having problems, try this: Before starting the weather program, set the P3D weather theme to “clear”, which should remove all clouds and set the surface winds to zero. Then, move the slider for “rate at which weather changes over time” from the default 50 percent to zero percent.

Just a thought...

Just because a developer participates in a private beta does not mean that they have access to the RTM version before it is released. For developers that don't quite follow LM's "rules", they have to wait and see what the differences are between the final beta and RTM version.

After adjusting to this setting the ride was much smoother. The wind problem was still there but at seldom times. Although (True Winds Aloft) not activated, you will still have winds but more stable.

This wind problem is also present in the REX sky force weather injection. I was wondering what was going on.

Yes I see now the winds are wildly varying aloft around about a 90 degree spread... Nice weather radar depiction though...

I need to apologize to the developer of FSXWX for assuming it does not do injection of r/w upper winds. It definitely does have the capability, and appears to download current GFS Grib data.

However, as the developer of Opus and others have noted, there is definitely a problem with injected winds. Injection of clouds and any reported precipitation works fine, and temperature, pressure and wind speed all correspond to the METAR, but direction is varying all over the place for surface wind. I didn’t try flying, since I assume winds aloft will be equally screwed up.

Unless there is a new SDK way to inject winds in P3DV5 that nobody is yet aware of, I have to assume there is a bug in the RTM version of V5 relating to injection of winds that LM will have to fix before we will see an “official” V5 version of Active Sky or any other commercial weather engine.

Excellent point.

HiFi is a wonderful company.

If weather(wind) injection is broken in the current RTM of v5.0 then PMDG and co. can take their sweet time.

Without a functioning Activesky integration v5.0 will remain dormant on my system.

P.S. v5.0 runs extremely well (I could not be happier) and I can’t wait for this weather injection issue to be addressed. All I am waiting for now is ASN and PMDG B744/8.

yes I noticed that too with the default winds in P3D V5, the Autopilot was having a hard time maintaining a heading, Truesky is just amazing and I have fantastic performance but if I disable it I seriously loose 50% of my frames which is the exact opposite of some other reports I have seen. I hope HIFI Sim is able to nail a solution that can use Truesky as its miles ahead of 2D clouds

Cheers

It will be a huge pity if the weather system is not fixed in the first Hotfix.  Active Sky weather is priority one before any engines get started.

I haven't seen any reports of such bug in the private beta forums.. Which is surprising.. So maybe there is something else behind it or REX / HiFi reported it privately..

Regarding REX and HiFi weather apps. These guys always push the boundaries of the simulator as far as they can.. I am sure they are at this point exploring the limits in order to implement new stuff. I would also like to remind you guys a Hotfix is coming so it makes no sense to release a product update now to then have to do it again after the Hotfix!. Many are holding up for this reason, including myself..

Please give these companies the space to deliver the quality of products your are hoping to receive.

Regards,

Simbol
