Removing Default airport buildings

I am still waiting for T2Gate to update for V5.

I beg to differ on the issue being an LM issue.  In my case I purchased an add on airport to cover up the bad default airport in P3D V5 that had objects out of place,  namely KRAP.  The scenery works in P3D v4 but not in v5. So I have to wait until the scenery developer modifies the scenery to work in v5 so I can coverup the bad default airport, which I feel should have been fixed by LM.

They can’t fix it if they don’t know specifically what needs fixing. LM has been repairing quite a few default airports as issues are brought to the attention of the developers.

If there is something wrong with the default KRAP, you should probably bring it to LM’s attention on their forum, being as specific as possible as to what is not correct. I don’t know if it is too late for any new scenery corrections to make it into HF2 - it might be.

I appreciate that LM did update airports from the extremely outdated versions we had before, but the process is not perfect. I assume that most updates were done by automated tools, using a variety of data sources.

Except perhaps for the largest r/w airports, I doubt that the majority of updated airports in V5 were built by hand or carefully checked for errors on a one-by-one basis - there are so many world airports in the sim, that checking them all by hand against charts or satellite photos would probably take decades of developer time.

My own home airport KELM is much better in V5 than it was in FSX and P3D 3 & 4, but it still has errors. It seems evident that the data that was used to build the V5 airport dates to about 2016, as there are two hangars present in the V5 scenery that used to exist then, (but no longer do) - and a major taxiway re-routing and terminal expansion that was done in 2017-2019 are not present.

I am taking this opportunity to learn how to use ADE, by doing a complete re-build of the V5 airport, with the re-routed taxiways, new terminal, better representations of the existing hangars etc As a rank beginner to scenery development, I have about two weeks into the project. I’m sure an experienced developer could do it much faster, but even then, the process is complex enough that I feel confident in assuming that most default P3DV5 airport construction was automated.

One thing I have found in learning ADE is that P3DV5 has a lot of new autogen objects that did not exist in earlier versions of the sim, which is probably partly responsible for some of the bleed through of default objects when using older sceneries not specifically compiled for P3DV5. This is not a “bug” to be fixed - unless you consider adding new features to the sim to be a “bug”.

I do completely understand it can be frustrating when trying to use an older add-on scenery in V5 that may no longer be under active development or otherwise supported.

I am guessing that the issue with varying height poles with flashing red lights on top running through the airport is related to what you mentioned above.  Fortunately I have a friend that gave me a suggestion and I was able to create an exclusion rectangle to block the scenery from the default airport.  Deleting the scenery objects and recompiling the airport did not work and the deleted objects still remained even though they showed deleted during the process.  So I have a work around for now.  But I just found out that I wasted my money purchasing V5 thinking that all airports would follow terrain.  Turns out they don't and for the most part the airports look about the same as they did in v4.5.  So I could have saved some money.

The poles with the flashing lights are mostly coming from hazards.bgl. You can eliminate all of them (everywhere), by renaming hazards.bgl to hazards.off, but then you will lose legitimate antennas, high voltage transmission line towers, etc. world wide.

Thanks.  I'll leave things as they are.  But where would I report this issue with the KRAP default airport?  I can provide screenshots and let them know the issue is in v4.5 as well as v5.

I am also having this issue.

Currently found it at EGNT and LPFR so far, but going to do a further inspection of all my airports today.

The only way I have found to solve it currently, is by going into ADE, opening the stock airport and removing all the buildings within it, compiling it as a BGL and returning it to either the scenery > world folder, or to a new folder within the sim. Make sure the folder is below all your sceneries.

Would be great if LM could fix this issue though as it is a huge pain!

I just tried doing this but my sim crashes to the desktop the second I hit load scenario.

I've managed to set exclusions for all my airports, the issue I was having was with the v5 SDK apparently. What I was doing was drawing an exclusion rectangle in ADE and excluding all and then compiling with the v5 bglCompiler, however it seems there must be a bug or a change with this compiler as it would not work, it'd just mess up the altitude values for taxiways and runways in the AFCAD. Changing over to the v4 version of ADE and using v4's bglCompiler and doing the same steps (Exclusion rectangle around whole airport, exclude all, and compile and replace the AFCAD) worked. Not sure if it was just an issue on my end, but with the v4 compiler, I now have no default airport buildings or terrain issues at airports.

That seems to be a solution for the time being?

Didn't work for me, no changes whatsoever. I loaded the default airport, deleted all possible objects and in addition, created an exclusion rectangle. Compiled and then moved the file to SCENERY\WORLD\SCENERY (or even the original directory), but no difference.

P3D v5 reads from the top, so anything in scenery\world\scenery will be ignored.
You could try adding your revised version to the top of the in-game scenery library.

Have you tried using Tools > Load Stock Data and check Scenery Objects in ADE to see if you can remove these things that way?

Actually I'm using P3Dv4.5, have two addon airports that are presenting "duplicated everything" despite each addon is very much above the default ones in the scenery library. Quite strange behaviour, since the addon sceneries normally have their techniques in order to exclude the default objects for that area.

@Davi Vega

Yes, I tried loading stock data and then I go to List and from there I choose each type of objects in the lists, select all of them and then I delete them all. After that I compile the .BGL and put on the library, but I see no difference (I see duplicated stuff and elevation issues).

When I only try to delete the corresponding .BGL in the \SCENERY\0303\APXxxxxxxxx.BGL, for example, then everything seems to work fine, the addon scenery looks beautiful, the elevation is correct, but when I try to taxi over the appron or runway pavement it's like the plane is over gravel or unpaved surfaces, behaving erratically.

Deleting default files is a bad idea and should not be necessary unless you are still
adding your files to scenery/world/scenery.
You should try adding your revised version to the top of the in-game scenery library.

Yikes! I don't suggest doing this, as APX files contain more than one airport and they will all disappear. Here's a kinder and gentler way to fix the issue:

It may take some time for each airport, but it will give you the correct exclusions for each default object.

Playing Devil's Advocate here.......why would you want to keep any default airports?

He doesn't, he wants to stop the P3D v5 default buildings from showing through the P3D v4 addons.

You can:

1. take the APX file of your addon airport and load it into ADE for P3D v5.
2. load stock data
3. delete all of the stock data from the APX file.
4. compile the resulting file using the exact same file name as the original
5. replace the original with your new file

This may not be the only way to do this but it is a method that works.
