Potential (and required) Hotfix for V5

Recommended Posts

Certainly, there are a few pending details to correct. Some older, some smaller, but overall this version of the P3D looks promising once the details are fine-tuned.

I think that the best tests are being done by users with the different software and hardware configurations and that is the best feedback that LM can have.

I've read a lot about a polential (or random) problem related to collisions with invisible terrain in runway approach situations. That is quite a delicate thing. No one will want to lose a long haul on a final approach due to failure. Particularly I have already experienced this problem in the few short flights I have made with the V5.

Greetings and Health to all

I am quite impressed by this slow-down after V5 release. I am wondering what is the purpose of developers being included in the LM beta for "a long time" as it has been noted. LM has said they worked together with developers. I tend to believe that most developers did not want to lose time working with the betas and decided to wait until LM releases the final version to start working on it. Otherwise these issues should have been reported before the final release. Except the developers had been talking to LM about these issues and LM didn't do anything until now. Who knows.

Speculating what developers are doing or have not done is a bit of a far reach, as I am sure most of you (along this mode of thinking) do realize that there other aspects of beta testing that v5 itself required before it could be released by Lockheed Martin.  It allows developers to see how their projects are affected and provides an internal timeline to determine when they can push their updated projects (at least for us) based on other projects that are currently in development, and based on the amount of work that will have to be done.  MJC has always pushed the updates after the first or second LM update as it allows for underlying issues from the initial release in some cases to be exposed by a wider group of users.

Developers are not bound to have projects on the front-line upon the immediate release of any simulator platform, nor will they likely do so without validating that the addon works to their satisfaction before releasing it.  Developers are also not bound to provide a status of if/when an addon would be available, but we do.  MJC's statement does not speak on the behalf of other Dev. groups, nor should it be speculated why other Dev. groups have not said anything at this time.  I am sure they will in due time.

LM and the Dev. groups have been working quite well together and v5 has a lot of potential which will eventually come to light.

Cheers

Not everyone will be, but I'm mostly grounded until then.  Currently just installing scenery and having a general look around. But even with all these issues outstanding, i'm liking what I'm seeing.

Hey Erich-

You can add me to that list. Getting smashed into runways after hour + flights (with stock aircraft going into stock airports) is send me back to my perfectly running 4.5

I'm a LM supporter but I'm not only unsure but disappointed with what's going on here, not just my landing woes. It is understood and accepted that things will be different and adjustments will have to be made with new releases and most are fine with this and some look forward to it. I don't know what the deal is.

I, like you, will keep it installed, keep an eye on the forum, and hope LM trades more for better.

Cheers,

Mark

It has not happened to me (yet), but hitting an “invisible wall” on short final is happening to so many V5 users, at so many airports, that I have to wonder how this could have escaped notice of LM’s internal beta testers.

I have heard that they were generating new builds almost up to the moment of the RTM release, so I would think the “invisible wall” bug was introduced quite late in the development cycle. LM is definitely aware of the problem and is investigating.

This looks like a beta version to me. Now that I've got that expectation realigned in my head, I'm OK with it.

This or that doesn't work because V5 is a beta.

I just loaded 4.5 a few minutes ago.

Everything works.

Getting "smashed down into the runway" (both during landings and departures) is an issue that is not exclusive to P3Dv5. I have experienced it in P3Dv3 and P3Dv4, and it occurred when I had the terrain mesh resolution set to a value higher than 5 metres.

I have never had this happen in any version of P3D that I have owned.

My mesh setting is 10m.

I also suggest you trundle over to the LM forum and check the 7 page thread on this.

Higher resolution settings than 5 metres are 2 metres and 1 metre, so I am not surprised that you have never experienced it.

The bug is affecting installations with mesh resolution set to 19 meters or even 38 meters. It can happen not only on approach, but almost anywhere (unpredictably) if flying lower than about 1000 feet AGL.

Ah, so this bug is a lot more serious than the issue in earlier versions.

It is at any airport, as best I can tell.. never saw this in P3DV4..

I had it happen in the A2A P51 and it bent the prop. So even tho it was invisible, it was solid enough to trigger the accusim damage. So far I like V5 overall but it's going to need some in depth hotfixes.

So now we're back to chasing a pipe dream by spending thousands on new hardware in the name of gaining a FPS and having a piece of software run properly which should run on current hardware. I'm not wasting any money on P3D, my next big upgrade will be with the new sim.
