Can't wait for Active Sky

Recommended Posts

In the meanwhile I fly the Learjet 35a by Flysimware, they released a V5 installer. Great plane! And Fsxwx is working also for the weather.

Now please active sky and Pmdg!

Has anyone tried opusfsi?  I have seen in its web is now p3dv5 compatible.

And it says it works with the new enhance weather kind of clouds.

I think this wind bug needs to be fixed first before a weather add-on will even truly add anything to the sim. Who cares about how the clouds look when the wind is making your plane shake back and forth wildly. It's a real problem.

Agreed. I hope the hotfix takes care of the issue and in a few weeks/months we get ACtive Sky

FSGRW and Opus FSI both have V5 installers and both work, but both are afflicted by the problem of winds shifting direction on the ground and in flight.

FSGRW does have the option of disabling injection of upper-level winds, leaving essentially only one wind layer (surface). I’ve found that when the upper winds are turned off in FSGRW, the surface wind direction is perfectly stable, so it appears that the essence of the current bug in V5 is that there is some kind of interaction between wind direction in adjacent wind layers when there is more than one layer defined by an external program.

I don’t know if Opus has the ability to disable upper winds, while still leaving a single surface wind layer.

Of the two programs, I think Opus does a better job of building a cloud and visibility scenario than FSGRW when using the old-school 2D clouds (Enhanced Atmospherics turned off.)

Both programs will work with True Sky clouds, but with only two cloud layers available in the Beta version of True Sky, it doesn’t leave much to work with. I did a flight through an area of rain and clouds yesterday using FSGRW and True Sky. It built a solid stratus overcast layer below, with occasional cirrus above. The stratus deck, when viewed from high altitude, had a definite appearance of perfectly aligned square blocks - looking just like a quilt. The atmospheric visibility effects though were very nice, and the affect of the volumetric clouds while climbing up through the overcast layer and coming out the top was also very nice.

Like everyone, I am anxiously awaiting the first V5 version of Active Sky, but don’t expect we will see anything until the hot fix is released. Several people (including the Opus developer), have posted comments on the official LM forum about the wind shifts, but nobody from LM has responded to those comments regarding whether they even agree there is a bug, or whether any fix is planned.

but you have the same issue in offline weather, when it will be solved HiFi can do a patch, no problem for this, I hate offline weather.

I'm holding off purchase until we get Active Sky.  Like Bob above, I really can't fly without some kind of decent "real world" weather.

OpusFSI live weather and FSGW are available now for V5.

You'll forgive me if I prefer Active Sky and have been using it since the earliest days even when Jeppesen weather was still working.

I really hope they release the beta today because they said it will most probably be released between 4 - 6th of May. I haven't bought the v5 yet because I am waiting for Active Sky.

I don’t think Hifisim would release it if they can’t control the weather.
