unable to uninstall p3dv4

Recommended Posts

I started at topic with the prepar3d forum but response has been slow and so far the only reply points me to instructions on how to remove p3dv4. I patiently waiting a further reponse. In the meantime, has anyone here encountered a fatal exception trying to uninstall P3dv4? When trying to uninstall using the proper precedures?

The obvious answer to all this is to just delete the P3dv4 folder..but i am hoping to keep the licence for a fallback procedure if version 5 is not what i am looking for.

I cannot have both sims on my HDD as i have 2 x 2 gig hd pretty full so yes, i must remove 1 to install the other!

Any tips or additional help appreciated!☺️

Did you happen to remove the packagecache folder a long time ago and forget about it?  I ask because I made that mistake and got an error trying to remove which reminded me I had put it on my NAS - restored it and was able to uninstall.

Or...try just removing the client?  I think that's all that's required to release the license.

Or...you can always just email LM, explain what happened and they'll reset your license count.  Had to do that once a long time ago also because I formatted without uninstalling (before learning that lesson).

^^ This.  Takes up to two business days, and then your license is reactivated on their servers for whenever you might want/need it in the future.

Many thanks for the responses!! 😊

I have decided to just do the messy thing and delete the P3dv4.5 folder

Also have emailed licensing

It was just taking up to much of my time and would like to move on while I still have some Covid 19 isolation time

Cheers

Prolly OBE by now, but I would have proceeded as follows:

Rt-click on Win Start > App / Features, click right side Programs/Features, then uninstall the several P3D components.  If you do "Professional" first, most of the rest will be also uninstalled.  And when you uninstall P3D, don't forget to also uninstall Documents/P3d Addons and Docs/P3d docs, as well as Appdata/Roaming/LM and Program Data/LM.

Not a good idea to just delete the root folder.  Why?  Because it leaves your Windows registry full of literally THOUSANDS of entries related to P3D, and those could conflict with a reinstall of P3D if anything's different on the second install - could be a different location on your system, updated files, yada, yada.  Just never a good idea to short-circuit the uninstall process.

Anytime I uninstall a major app like P3D, which is pervasive throughout your system, I also do a jv16 Power Tools registry clean to get rid of uninstall remnants which the (sloppy) uninstall process left behind.  It leads to a more hygienically-correct system, if you catch my drift.

Nobody 2020: Thanks for the email.  No uninstall was possible, either as the total package, nor individually as the same error resulted regardless of what I did.

Hence I uninstalled by deleting and using Lockheed forums deleted all the associated files
