trueSKY is Amazing (16 Pictures)

Looks terrible, and a good reason (for me) to wait before deciding to switch.

So, yes..

Well I'm hedging a bit because I don't completely understand exactly how Nvidia altered more recent drivers to allow GTX GPUs to also do raytracing. There's a lot written regarding this topic online and I suggest reading further if you want a definitive answer.

In any case, my point is that an app that has a component like trueSky is going run a lot faster on an RTX GPU. As we all know, as the user increases IQ settings, it's not just framerates that decline. Other bad things happen  in parallel (stutters, terrain morphing, blurries, autogen popping, black object textures, etc.)  because the hardware can't process information fast enough.

Why talk about raytracing and claiming you need an RTX for P3D when there is no raytracing implementation in P3D. I mean, I'm sure it doesn't hurt to have an RTX card, but the extra raytracing hardware is not doing anything in P3D.

Fair enough.. faster hardware is always better

But my point actually was that even with my more modest system, V5 has proven to be a solid performer, better than V4.5. and that includes with the atmospheric beta enabled, on my GTX 1070..   Nice!

I completely agree.

Atmospheric on my 2080ti is unbelievable good, even in beta. At high setting it barely breaks a sweat.
