Question about EA (Enhanced Atmospherics)

Recommended Posts

i have it switched on since the start and canˋt see myself going back! the clouds look so much better and once ASN works it will be absolutely beautiful!

of course i have the flickering too, but most of the times its not that much and i simply ignore it! once airborne it disappears anyway and you get to enjoy the awesome looking clouds! the sensation of actually going through them is another feeling than without EA on!

New to p3dv5.1. I turned off EA because it looked like I was flying in a constant fog. Anyway to fix that with EA on?

I like EA and try to fly with it on as much as I can (I really like the ambient lighting with EA on). But there are times when I turn it off.

I have a few airports where my VRAM get to high and EA needs to be turned off or the sim will crash

I turn it off when the forecast calls for snow. (can't see snow with EA on)

I turn it of when the forecast calls for moderate to heavy rains (can't see the rain with EA on). I leave EA on with light rain though.

I sometimes turn it off during dusk and dawn (I don't always like the sky colors). ActiveSky helps so it depends on what the sky colors looks like if I will leave it on or turn it off.

I have tried EA but to my eyes it looks absolutely terrible particularly clouds.  Based on comments above I must have missed something - any suggestions appreciated.

Well, I have the HF5.1 installed, I am using ASCA and Envtex...When you get closer to the clouds you realize how blurry they are, I cannot describe...looks pixalated, blurry, just wierd!! =/

Because they are just 2.5D cardboard clouds with textures. The closer you are the uglier they get.

So what I'm getting is that it's great for 'ambience' and creating a nice backdrop but in terms of weather generation it sucks...?!

Has anyone been able to get more than 1 cloud layer visible with EA enabled?  With AS too?

No. I usually get my fluffy CU clouds despite the atmosphere IRL would just be able to muster Status clouds. No real Cirrus clouds either, which is a shame.
