Choosing the right monitor for your virtual cockpit

Recommended Posts

For those of you planning on upgrading your monitor for this sim, is there any point going higher than 75hz? Curved screens worth it? Would love to see some pics of your current monitor setup. I'm thinking about dual or triple screens but don't know what to get or how to display them. I'm thinking one cockpit view and one external view. I'm assuming two monitors require double the GPU power?

I'm going to get a Ultra Wide 49" screen. 2 times the width of a normal screen. Don't want bezels in my view. Great field of view.

There's no point going higher than 60Hz you're unlikely to get anything higher than 60 FPS on 4k...that's not a criticism of the sim it' s just reality.

I would highly recommend a  4k ultrawide though!

Tanks guys. How perceptible is the image quality difference between 1440p and 4k on a sub 40 inch monitor?

I have a 34" curved ultrawide (3440x1440) and cant' see the individual pixels if that's what you mean. It has only 3.5M pixels versus 8M for 4K screens but I am not missing them. It is easier on the GPU as well.
I really like the ultrawide screen ratio (21:9) for both office work and gaming.

What aspect ratio is the sim designed for.  I would be concerned with stretching/distortion on sides.

I am not concerned, considering FSX doesn't seem to have any issues with it either according to some reviews. I also expect Asobo to have thought about that when making a game for the 2020's

Could you post a photo showing the perspective of that screen with the simulator running and sitting in the VC?  Would appreciate seeing it.  Like you I use my system and of course monitor for multiple purposes, including work.

That took a moment, considering I hadn't installed FSX on my new PC yet (playing different games lately), but here are some screenshots:
Here is a screenshot of the sim:

And this one after I changed to wide in the FSX.cfg:

And here how it looks from where I sit:

Here's a video worth viewing before deciding on the choice of a monitor or TV for our flight simulator. For me, the most important part of the video is the last 10 or so minutes when the discussion shifts to what room will be offered to display cockpit instruments vs scenery.

I have the Samsung 5K UW49 and it is just great. I think having a higher refresh rate will also be a plus once MSFS is out.

How so? I though high refresh rate monitors were only good for fast paced games like first person shooters. What would the benefits be for a flight simulator?
