Great news for those wanting Tropical Water!

Recommended Posts

Mitch the Guinea Pig, here...decided to 'take the plunge'....lol.

Injectied Tropical Water and Coral from Rex 4 Texture Direct and the water is so much nicer in the Caribbean now!

Not the same dark ocean blue everywhere in the Default P3Dv5 world...so, here is the new off-near shore, shallow tropical water :

This is so great to see! I decided to have another go with v5, and I just noticed the other day that I still have Texture Direct with Soft Clouds, so I'm going to give it a try. How do you direct it to v5?

There will be a mask in the settings for both FSX and P3D4.   In that mask, merely point to your ROOT P3D5 folder...and that's that. Now, when you send textures to your 'P3D4' directory it will be sending the textures to in fact, your P3D5 set up. Easy.

I just re-upped with v5 after having ditched it with all the bugs from the initial release. I have to say, now with EA on (and not crashing the sim), the water looks great. Really enjoy the visuals in the Caribbean now. Problem now is I’m having all these weird shimmers. Like the shadows of the islands on the water have a shimmer from a distance, the tops of the mountains on the islands have shimmers. I’ll have to figure it out.

Hey Mitch,

While you are working on improving the sim : perhaps you can find a clouds/sky combo that looks a bit like TrueSky ...

Myself I have ASCA + EnvTex + EnvShade

The last one can be tuned to give more/less Raleigh scattering which TrueSky has too.

Slight topic offshoot:

It seems like there are a few of us who really like flying around the Caribbean. It’s too bad there aren’t regional subforums where we could all discuss this region without having to clog up the main P3D forum. It would make it a lot easier to keep track of what we talk about as well.

Have regional subforums ever existed?

I agree with how good the Caribbean looks.  It seems the water is much more hi def to me and I am looking forward to what guys like REX will be able to do with enhancing it. Came into IDS's MYNN the other day and I was impressed with just what the stock water textures look like. This is only the beginning of what we are going to see visually with P3D.

I hope the REX boys are working some magic in the back room for V5.

That water is much improved.

I think that you are referring to a TrueSky bug. It's still in beta.

Unfortunately,  the water textures and wave swells are masked very much when having TrueSky on.  For what I am showing here...you truly need to run in 'standard' mode. Not that that mode is in any way, a 'dog'!  Compare what I have done here, if you decide to follow the lead...and you will see for yourselves...TrueSky has to be 'off'.
