SimConnect not installing into correct directory

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am trying to install SimConnect but it get's installed into one folder down from where it should be. The .dll files are put in the fusion folder inside of WinSxS instead of just going into WInSxS, because of this no addons can detect that SimConnect is installed. I know it's installed because I can see it in control panel. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Really unknown. But it seems Win10 and their updates are causing this.

There are a few examples of this happening.
In one post it refers to missing  Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 and 2015 redistributables.

It shouldn't matter that they are installed there because during the installation the .dll's, acting as system files, are registered in the registry with their paths.
Perhaps there is old registry entries from a past system state that are pointing to the wrong place.

- If none of the above works -
Advanced and just guessing here..
What you could try is:
1) uninstall all simconnect files from control panel
2) Unregister all the simconnect.dlls, new ones & the old ones path - if possible, may have to go registry hunting for old paths

regsvr32 /u "path & filename of dll or ocx"

3) Reinstall simconnect(s) again, letting them go into "fusion"

With Steam FSX:SE use the Steam menu, right click on the game and choose properties from the popup menu, then choose Local files, verify integrity. That should make sure 10.0.62615.0 and 10.0.61259.0 are installed correctly. Then leaves 10.0.61242.0 which can be installed from the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-SP1" .

SimConnect .dll files are located inside WinSxS subfolders starting with "C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect"

I just checked and I do have 2005, 2013 and 2015-2019 Visual C++ redistributables installed. It appers to be something with the new Windows Insider build for the new May update.
