Jump ahead feature

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Been using the QW787 with the jump ahead feature which I’ve found works very well. I prefer this to time acceleration and was wondering if there was a utility that could add a jump ahead feature to all aircraft?

Many thanks

Regards

That would be nice, but I understand that it does not (yet) exist: when jumping ahead with the QW787, fuel consumption is calculated by the addon and adjusted accordingly. How should a tool be capable of doing this with many different aircraft addons that might have more or less complex fuel burn simulations? This would be a hell of a job and they would need the ok from many, many addon developers and support would be simply a nightmare.

I too love that feature. I like to spend my time on accurate planning and flight prep, departure and arrival, but I just don’t have the time anymore to do long hauls, despite my love for them. The QW787 makes that possible!

I’d love to see others implement it, but I also wouldn’t mind paying for 3rd party solution, if it could be implemented in a user friendly way e.g. via FMC, EFB, or otherwise

Cheers,

Pete

The messy way to do this would be to use P3D's moving map to move your aircraft to the appropriate point but then you'd need to update your active leg in the FMC and change the fuel.

Yep, that’s what I do with other long haulers.

I wrote a utility called Quantum Leap (in the library here) back around 7-8 years ago for FSX that uses FSUIPC...should still work in P3D with the appropriate version of FSUIPC.  It allows you to reset the acft position and time (Z).  It repositions the acft, either to a lat/long or to any waypoint defined in the PMDG waypoint database (if you have a Navigraph subscription you can install the PMDG-format database even if you have no PMDG add-ons).

It is a bit messy still...after the reposition, often the difference in wind, variation, and barometric pressure at the new location results in the acft speed/altitude/heading being way off and in need of recovery to stable flight, and you have to manually reset the fuel load.  It's still much more desirable than droning on for hours and hours.

I typically create a flight plan that takes me via a normal routing to a point 200-300 miles out from departure, and then direct to a point ~200nm from the destination, with normal routing after that.  That helps with not having to skip past pages of waypoints in my ATC program.  Once reaching the planned jump point, I set direct in the FMC, get cleared direct from ATC if needed, do the reposition with Quantum Leap, reset the fuel and stabilize the acft, and then resume the flight.  That's 5 min of hassle to save many hours of boring cruise flight...I've lost thousands of hours of my life doing that for real; don't need any more practice!

Sounds great, I might give that a try, thanks for the heads up. BTW: when jumping ahead with the QW787, the plane also takes some minutes to recover, at least on my end. Usually it instantly starts to dive after reposition and you can "feel" the jump it does due to the loss of fuel weight.

What I wonder with your tool: PMDG planes "survive" this reposition? They do not muck around if you change fuel inflight?

Yep I experience the same with the QW787

Thanks for the heads up on this! To be fair the QW787 goes slightly AWOL after a jump, but takes about 2mins to recover.

On my way to the library 🤓

Resetting fuel load in the PMDG birds inflight using the page in the FMC works just fine.
