I did try 85 at first, but 84 seems better for me.

If you guys get more fps that is great.  I am tying my fps to match my monitor at 30fps / 30 hz.  It is a 60 hz monitor but I can change it to 30mhz via Nvidia Control Panel.

Thanks for sharing your tweaks! I was curious about 30 MHz setting, I’ve only tried that once with my 4K monitor and couldn’t stand the mouse input lag. Is there a cure for that, or is the lag gone for you?

Cheers,

Pete

The mouse lag will always be there that is why in the past I never used the trick.

But then again I have other monitors which are on 60hz that is where I do the surfing (for example typing this post up).  On the sim screen - it is not like my mouse is everywhere on the screen.  Try the approach, Rob has been doing this for a while.  But the lag isn't as bad as it was, maybe the Nvidia drivers improved things or its the new windows 2004 build.  Things are snappy even in 30hz!!!

Are you running 4K like the OP ? my 4770K is getting hammered at 100% on all 4 cores in 4K with HT off . HT on is butter smooth in 4K

Question, why would Hyperthreading off in the BIOS make a difference? If i turn this off, would it slow down other games? Because I don't use my computer solely for P3D only. I play other games as well. But if turning off HT will result in a big performance gain in P3D, then I might as well do it.

It depends on two major portions. First, how many physical cores your processor has, and second if you use overclocking. AM and HT are two complete different socks. The difference of HT off is that the complete physical capability of the processer can be used. If HT is on, the additional "virtual" cores have to share the pipelines with the relating physical core. This is the reason why, if you overclocked your processor with HT ON, the overclocking will be shared between the physical and virtual cores, which means not all cores run with overclocked speed. Only with HT OFF all cores are running together with the overclocked speed.

For an application like P3D, which is not absolutely and much advanced optimized for multicore usage, it´s most likely more effective to use only the real physical cores their maximum performance.

AM is a complete different story because it´s driven only by software which only "allow" a specific core usage for the software, whilst the other blocked core are still present and consume performance anyway.

BerndB that all makes sense, thanks for explaining that, and yes to Michael, I am running at 4K. I will still have to do further testing with AM=84, and running with both HT on and OFF also in the BIOS to see. But where most of the performance hit comes from is when you're at the airport, once you depart and get away from it, your performance increases a lot. I'll get around 30-50fps once I'm airborne and about 20-40miles away from my departure airport. But the performance goes back down to like 10-20fps once you start reaching your arrival airport.

Taxiing down the runway and then departing down the runway brings my fps down to 10-15fps. Especially when exterior lights are on in the PMDG 747. My fps goes down to nearly the single digits.

I have noticed myself, that the P3D render engine of V5 seems working slightly different to V4.5. I was running V4.5 always with FPS limited to 30 and my processor is overclocked to 5 gigs with HT OFF which means all 8 cores are at 5 gigs. Only with this settings my sim was running more or less smooth.

Now with V5, AktiveSky  and TS on, i changed the setting to unlimited frames VSync and TB ON, and the Sim works absolutely smooth, even in highdense areas like EDDF. I agree to what skywolf mentioned (and by the way many others) to forget about AM and let P3D renderengine do it´s job. You should have in mind, that the developers who are working on the performance tasks of the engine in conjunction with modern CPU architectures, wouldn´t optimizes their algorythms for AM settings.

Hi guys,

Looks like I have finally achieved on what I have been wanting to do for a while with my hardware.  I figured out the trick for people with 8GB video cards and having at minimum 30fps with the following addons installed - including one of the most fps hit area that has plagued almost all of us for ages.

Finally pulled off Slick FPS at 30fps with 30hz 4K monitor (TL/DR - see also pics) - My VRAM stayed around 5.2GB in SoCaL area with all that autogen and flying.  AT KORD area it jumped to 6gb but still tons left.

with

Set the following in P3Dv5 and CPU - My tweaks are even less in the second round but the addons complexity increased insanely.

1) Disable HT and No Affinity Mask - I tried them all.  Let P3Dv5 do its thing.

2) MAX_TEXTURE_REQUEST_DISTANCE=300000 (Default is 1000)

3) Enable HIGH_RESOLUTION_TERRAIN_TEXTURES=1 in Settings

3) TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10  - this goes in [TERRAIN]

4) LOD_RADIUS=3.500000

(Yes, put LOD to 3.5 with Texture Size ExP to 10, and hi res textures - all 3 go hand in hand) - If these are not like this - 8GB Video Card will get vrOOM!!! 4.5 LOD will straight up OOM with that high texture exp)

These settings Do the Magic with High Resolution Terrain enabled for 8GB Video Cards.  I am on Windows 2004 Final Build for May 20H1 (19041.208) - this mandatory for VRAM management - See my other thread

Enter The Addons

1) Orbx Socal (yes LA area)

2) FSDT KLAX

3) AIG planes

4) PMDG 747

5) FS Pilots 2020 NG Mesh

6) Chaseplane

7) AS P3D and TrueSky Enabled in P3Dv5

My hardware CPU is slightly older i7-5820K, 16GB DDR Quad Channel 2400, SSDs, Nvidia 2070 Super RTX, 3- 4k Monitors, Rift S

I am flying at 2500 FT at 355 Knots (yes, b/c I can)  with the PMDG 747 over Orbx SoCal and taking off from FSDT KLAX with few AIG birds.  All shots are in 4K monitor with AS P3D Hotfix 2 Beta and TrueSky enabled.

For some LA shots - Screen shots were taken in Time Preview Mode for dusk/dawn shots.  Main flight is at late evening.  This is way you all will see the graphics are super sharp - 30 fps outside and inside was ranging from 26-30fps at sometimes even more - though monitor is at 30hz 4K.

Skywolf, i think i´ve lost sometthing, what could easily be, because english is not my native tongue. Your thread says "amazing performance…" but now you say you have 10-15 fps at airports?!?. Maybe i´ve mistaken the word amazing?

Where did i say 10-15 fps at airports - I am having 25-30 fps in VC at the airports.  Everything is up  - You quoted captain420

it is in all the screenshots - at the upper top left.

5.1-5.5gb used in many cases.  I have so much headroom left.

All simulator images are full 4K - you may have to click on them to see them Full screen

I'm not skywolf. He's the one that got the amazing performance, not me.

Does really no one has any micro stutters? I tried now several settings described here and elswhere. Tried 30hz, locked FPS, etc. P3D v4 runs smooth with no stutters. P3D v5 also runs complete smooth but every 30 seconds or so the sim stops for around a second. I am clueless so far...
