GarminTrainer+F1GTN750+Windows 2004

Recommended Posts

Did it ask you, where the database should be installed? I double click on the database_setup.msi, it "installs" it without asking where or anything else, then it is just done. And I have no idea where it did install. Not what I like on my rig... Same goes with those two files linked above, executing them installs them somewhere, but you are not asked where and you have no idea where it went afterwards. Really bad installers...

I was worried about that initially too, then I discovered that everything had installed into the right place. I think they're really good installers but they should include a message that shows you that something has happened successfully.

There is no "right place" if one can not select it manually. I had both database and GTN installed (v2700 installer allows configuring it manually) on my dedicated simming drive, now it is for sure not installed where it was before (Those folders are gone after uninstalling v2700) but in a "default" location (did not yet check where exactly, I guess it is on C:\). While space is not an issue on none of my drives, I still hate installers doing this...

That did the trick.

- uninstall 2700

- install database setup from 2700 zip file

- run the two installers in the previous link

Thanks!

Yes, the installer in the original link will install the trainer but not the database that was removed when you did the uninstall. That’s why you found it empty...

I have done what was instructed by Prpn and the GTN opens very rapidly it seems to work OK until I open the map and I get TAS fail and no map only a black background. I am sure I  put the datebase in the correct place.

Also I found a new version which it says addresses performance issues related to Windows 10 version 2004 update,

at this address  https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=12373 2.7.1.0

What do I do with that please?

Kind regards

Richard

Nice find, this should allow F1 to resolve the issues with the GTN's. Waiting for their response.

PS. From the F1 support site it looks like the new the 2.7.1.0 version of the trainer is not compatible with the F1 gauges.

Do not install this version 2.7.1.0 yet. F1 GTN CPL 650/750 does not work with the trainer version! You will het a GTN error warming the  F1GTN DLL is not supporter for thIs version.

It is best to not uninstall the Garmin Trainer from the Windows Control Panel. Instead, use the trainer's own install/uninstall management. There should be a an entry on the Windows start menu for "Garmin Aviation Trainers". If you click on that, it will bring up the main menu. Click on "Installed Trainers", then click on the "Add / Remove" button that will appear, and follow the prompts. You should uninstall the GTN Trainer itself, and the Trainer Launcher, but you can choose to preserve the existing databases and other settings. If you then exit, and run the stand-alone installer, you will get the new Launcher and GTN trainer, but still have the databases from the previous version.

I did this for the RXP GTN's which have already been updated to use the new trainer, but if the F1 units are not yet compatible, you would not want to do anything with the trainer for now.

I updated the Garmin Trainers thru RXP GTN update. Everything went ok. After update my garmin trainer version is  2.7.1.0 and the GTN Trainer is 6.62.4. (The garmin updater informed that the databases wont be touched.)

Thanks @RXP, your update process makes everything easy!!!!

You're right of course, but that's just another way of doing very much the same. Database first and trainer second or vice-versa. If you reinstall the older trainer from scratch you just need to make sure that you reinstall the database as well. That's perhaps the step missing in PrPn's description which seems to throw some folks off.

What I find annoying though, is that there's a complete cone of silence from F1. Even as much as acknowledging the issue! All of this, while the actual trainer from Garmin has already been patched and seem to be working without a problem.

My GTN units are still running in slow motion. Can someone please provide a link to a trainer that works with win 10 2004 update?

Thanks.

The above Garmin installer will download the new 2.7.0.1 trainer which has the fix for poor performance under Win10 2004.

But, the F1 GTNs are not yet compatible with this new trainer unless something has changed in the last day or so. The RXP GTN units are fully compatible.
