I have an i7-8700 oc/d to 4.7 and a GTX 108ti overclocked which provides adequate frames in both P3Dv4 and P3Dv5.  For several years I've been running the HT off thinking this would hold down heat while running the simulator.  But today I read that running with HT off makes no difference since P3D is a 64 bit program.  Will turning HT back on increase the heat, and is there any advantage having it back on as far as P3D is concerned?  Thanks.

HT helps quad core processors in P3D.  HT on gives you 8 virtual cores, of which the second LP is disabled via an Affinity Mask, leaving 7.

With your six core processor, I believe you can safely leave HT off in P3D.

In P3Dv4.x we 6 core guys were right on the cusp of either leaving HT off or on (i.e. some did, some didn't).

With 4.1 or 4.2 (can't remember) I tested HT on vs. off and ultimately HT on won out on my configuration.  However, with P3Dv5, we see a different core usage distribution, so that info may be of less importance now.  I'd say if you can avoid blurries with HT off, with the settings you prefer, then go with that.

I say that because I can't imagine HT=on not running at least a little hotter with all cores rolling.  Check your cpu and cooling setup yourself with Prime95.

Markedly hotter on my 6 core with HT on for no obvious gain - so kept off.
