FTFF Dynamic AGL 0-4000 / 0.01 - 0.25

You see I'd love to know if when using FTFF Dynamic and unlimited frames is it really unlimited or does it just say its unlimited in the GUI of P3D. Because my understanding is that any FFTF value above 0 is antithetical to Frame rate = unlimited for that same reason that \infty wreaks havoc with any other equation!

If in doubt, set it to 120 in P3D.. that is what the FFTF developer suggested.

Personally, I do not see any difference..

Bert, this way is rather a catch-22 situation. You'd want to increase your fps by saving on textures quality (FFTF is low at 120). But the moment you change frame rates in the settings to anything from Unlimited you turn on the internal mechanism of generation of extra frames ahead for each frame sent to GFX output. I'm not sure what is better lower frames or more frequent  visual hiccups. And I know most of us tend to fly in congested areas with heavy sceneries.

I'd be curious what settings folks with high-refresh panels have set (120 Hz+).

I hate to say this, but one of the crucial questions in the poll should be *Which version of P3D are you using?*.

What works for one doesn't necessarily work on the other ...

Aren't all of these options in the survey dependent upon what refresh rates are available on your specific monitor setup? This then determines whether you apply vsynch or not, locked or unlocked frames either internal or external.

Interestingly im doing something entrely different - in sim i have set Unlimited amd Vsync off. In nVidia Control Panel, i have set Half-Refresh Vsync. My monitor is a 144Mhz panel but i leave it set at 60Hz.

Thus, i have 30fps in sim.

Works nicely!

Isn’t the frame limiter in NVCP useless and has no affect in P3D? This was according to Nick N at Simforums

The frame limiter in NVCP works perfectly with P3D’s internal limiter set to unlimited. I have the NVCP limiter set to 30, and that is exactly what I get in the sim.

Hi!

I'm really interested in how you guys are handling your frame-rate-limit? 🤓

Unfortunately I'm not able to run my monitors on 30Hz and just use VSYNC, as I would guess this is the best option to handle the frame-rate-limit.

So I've been using the internal limiter on 30fps for quite a long time and it was kind of ok.
Then I switched to RTSS with the scanline sync option and internally unlimited, which felt a bit better.

But it would be nice to see what works for most of you 😎

Cheers,

Marc

For 5y now, including on 7y/o hardware for 4.8y of that, I discovered completely stutter-free, smooth video in v3.4 and now v4.5 w/ 2mo old hardware, and that is with using unlimited/vsync to 30Hz screen.  Others succeed at this, I haven't yet so I need to go try again to see if I can get one of the apps to get the 1/2 rate refresh on a 60Hz screen w/ unlimited frames in-sim, to see if that offers any improvement over what I've been doing, which was perfect in terms of fluid video.  I am playing around now w/ FFTF Dynamic to see if the rare 'long frame' or pause can be improved upon, and thus far with about 5 flights that should bring on those rare long frames I've seen just one longer frame, a shorter pause, so I think there is hope to get rid of those finally w/ FFTF.   I'm setting FFTF Dynamic to AGL 6000, FFTF range from 0.05 -1.0 right now.   I did start w/ 0.01 to 1.0 but got a rare slight stutter turning the NGXu at KDEN-HD during taxi so bumped up non-fiber resources just a bit and I think it helped as I had none this morning out of the same gate to runway.

What I've not had is any problem w/ the 30Hz refresh for mouse latency or blurriness, it seems very close to or identical to 60hz, however I'm using a wired mouse so I wonder w/ others who say 30Hz is headache-inducing if a wireless mouse might be at play.

A 30hz screen is not exactly expensive compared to everything else we pay for in this hobby, but if 60Hz w/ a 1/2 refresh vsync produces the quality I have that clearly is the best option.  I should be able to succeed w/ the workaround for no 30Hz and will know then if they are truly comparable.   If it isn't, I strongly recommend you consider picking up a 30Hz screen if a new screen is in your future.   This approach worked identically and flawlessly w/ 7 y/o hardware as it does now for me on totally new and different hardware, save the mouse and and screen.

I'm finding too, that after days and days of trying all kinds of combination settings in P3d v5, that setting the NVidia Frame Limiter to 30 and using Unlimited in the sim (no VSync or TB), that my flights are much more reliable so that they are not interrupted by pauses or stuttering.  So far then, I am beginning to believe this is the way to go with this sim.  I never would have believed it just a week ago.  I am not changing my monitor frequency from 60Hz.  I leave it there.

Stan,

where do you adjust your frame rates? I could not find any frame rate limiter within the NVidia Control Panel? Do you use  the NVInspector? I also realized that "Sharpening" is no more available in my NVCP.

In NVCP, "Max Frame Rate". Should be the first "M" entry right under "Low Latency Mode"

Does Low Latency Mode come into play does anyone know, for P3D?
