What does PMDG have to do with the 747

I heard from reddit that the default 747 has a plaque that says:

THIS AIRFRAME IS SUBJECT TO A
FLIGHT EQUIPMENT PLEDGE:
"LEASED FROM PRECISION MANUALS
DEVELOPMENT GROUP., AS
OWNER TRUSTEE, LESSOR."

Does anyone have more info about that ?

From the statement from PMDG & the text I believe MS have acquired the external model & VC of the PMDG 747-8 and are using it as the baseline for the default aircraft. But the internals of the aircraft i.e system modelling etc. will be done by Asobo.

I found this very surprising that MS would buy 3d model from PMDG. They have access to very talented modelers at Asobo and they have a partnership with Boeing. I wonder how much they paid.

A little while ago I mentioned, that I wouldn't be surprised if some big devs are a little tighter involved in the development process of MSFS than others.

That was in the WebAssembly thread and a dev laughed at me for it. We'll see who laughs in the end I guess. 😄

Sure but if there is already a good model available which someone was willing to sell why spend the time and effort developing the same thing?

Of course it could just be a little nod to PMDG and nothing exchanged between 2 companies at all.

Why? There is nothing in there that implies MS has acquired any model from PMDG. Unless you know something I don't. Which I concede is absolutely possible.

I don't know if there is any truth to this or not but it seems the only thing hinting that it may be the case is something someone on reddit posted and people are already behaving as if it's a fact. I would be interested to see if this "plaque" is real. I suppose the Alpha lot would know but the rest of us proles can't assume that any of this is true at this point.

I have to agree. I see nothing in RSR’s statement to lead to that conclusion. It would be like reading an official weather forecast that says “Sunny skies and light winds are expected with temperatures 75 to 80”, and saying “this clearly shows that a severe blizzard is on the way”

Real airliner airframes and engines that are not owned outright by the airline will always have a plaque attached indicating the ownership of the asset by the lessor. Banks and other financial institutions do that to protect their interests.

Since I have not (yet) been picked for the MSFS Alpha, I have no way to check this. While I suppose there is a remote possibility it is true, I would certainly take anything that appears on Reddit with a massive grain of salt.

Yes but Asobo have a lot to do already.

As a global rule of thumb in companies, if it is there and well done why spending time and money on developing you own, you open the purse and negotiate a price and make it yours... 

It could be a 3D model or a whole software or even a software development studio, many companies buy any solution to add to their portfolio instead of the higher cost of doing theirs...

MS did this so many times, other too and a company were I was did it as well.

In fact, I thought initially that maybe MS would find somewhere out there a fancy ATC simulation solution and acquire it or license it to plug it in MSFS... It does not seem the case but it is one example that could reduce radically the headache of redoing internally what is well done elswhere and can be bought...

Asobo (had) have a lot to develop, finetune and fix in this software. I see all the features and the list of fixes in every update and I wonder how many work on the project in reality because I see a few dense backlogs for many teams there...
