Good Framerates - major stutters / pauses

I want to add that this may be related to ORBX. With my ORBX sceneries disabled the stutters are gone in V5.

What Orbx?  airports or other?

I have Orbx Global, OpenLC NA, OpenLC Europe and I have no stutters in v5.

Ive tested this, and, you are right.

p3dv5 has a major problem with stutter with autogen trees. If you turn the tree autogen to off the stutters stop. Something is off if my FPS is 45-60 but I am getting stutters every two seconds. I have resorted to using v4 for the time being. Sure my FPS is much lower, but I have an otherwise smooth flight experience.

Which Orbx scenery have you tested?
Like @Mace I don't have any stuttering with Orbx.

Installed and working very well is TE GB, TE NL, Aus v2, Global, OLC Europe, NA and SA, as well as both TreesHD and TerraFlora v2.

The only Orbx airport I have tested properly so far is YMML. It was a little heavy on performance with YMEN and Aus v2 Melbourne city. FPS would sometimes drop to 28 from locked 30.

I went to default Lisbon area and it was stutter free. Using orbx base.

As a sidenote I used MK studios palma De Mallorca, and, that place stutters!

Did you try 1555 instead of 21844? Why not having P3D on LP0 instead of on LP15? I recall there was a discussion that P3D should be preferably on Core0 or LP0 (in case of HT).

Thanks.

Hi Dirk,

Did you get that 1555 right?

10 core 1555 would be 11000010011 HT disabled

with HT enabled would be 00,00,00,00,01,10,00,01,00,11

I would go for HT disabled 0011111111 = 255

Better still HT enabled 00,00,01,01,01,01,01,01,01,01 = 21845 rightmost '01' is LP1 off and LP0 on which we need.

The spare two cores on the left will attract other activity away from '01' cores.

We can improve data loading efficiency with 00,00,01,11,11,01,01,01,01,01 = 32085

We can corral addon exe's onto 11,11,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 = 983040

and extend those into 11,11,10,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 = 1015808

I use the windows calculator programmer mode to paste into binary field to see decimal values.

Sorry, I was thinking of HT On AM in Hex for a 8-core I9 9900K:

00.01.01.01.01.01.01.01

Thanks.

PS: I was suggesting it in place of 21844 AM in Dec lol

Bumping my previous post, anyone have any successful experience with a 7700K w/ HT on?  Or even better with a 144 Hz Gsync panel?  I've been using AM=85 with fine FPS, but hoping to finally iron out the stutters.

Locking internally to 38 FPS seems to be a bit smoother than using RTSS.  As much as setting FPS to unlimited internally (limited through RTSS) gives me higher averages, I seem to get more stutters.

Do you guys think LM will address this with HF2, or do I need to learn all this stuff from scratch to fix my stutters?

Well, there's no getting around stutters in P3D, and HF2 won't change that.

Hmmm, I beg to differ in that regard.

With the right equipment and P3D tuning a very smooth experience can be had.

Take the example vid in the link below (and it's not even v5).

The thread also has info hardware/software and how the result was achieved.

Yes, you can reduce stutters if you're circling over the same scenery going ~80 knots

Your missing the point...

The main trick is to be able to maintain enough FPS to enable a Vsync.

That little run around 11S was consuming vast amounts of GPU - into the high 90% and was also a very high load on the CPU, all locked at a 30 Hz Vsync.

Anytime a GPU is maxed out 100% the framerates plummet and introduce a stutterfest, that's just the nature of what happens when the hardware is overloaded.

The vid is about tuning to achive max performance and looks for a smooth Vsync.

Cheers

You didn't eliminate stutters from P3D. That's all I'm saying. Nice video though.

Hmmmm, looking at that vid again I think I did :-)

Again it's having the right hardware and the right tune.

Of course LM could certainly do a little better at their end.

But hey, more competition usually gives a kick up the A.

Cheers

I'm curious what the following "items tuned" consist of from that link:

  • Extensive prepar3d.cfg changes to suit my style of flying.
  • Some direct hand customisation of P3D shaders.
  • Tuning of Active Sky Next.
  • Tuning of Rex Direct Textures.
  • Customisation of the video driver use via Nvidia Inspector

Always interested what others are specifically looking at to benefit their sims.
