REX Worldwide Airports HD And Addon Airports

Featured Replies

Bought this on sale the other day.

Quick question: I'm assuming it only updates default airports with textures and leaves addon airports untouched?

As far as I am aware, yes that is correct.

Saitek X-55 Rhino - Track IR5 - Obutto Sim Cockpit + Triple Monitor Stand - Fancy some Techno? https://www.mixcloud.com/dj_bully/

it changes the default tesxtures. So if an addon airport is using default textures as well, they will be changed as well

took that on discount a few days ago and wondering why Tower textures not improved ?

Should an addon airport that I paid money for be using default textures?

Are you talking V5, this is why using a 4.5 airport or some V5 updated airports can show issues, V5 is more BGL based and are not compatible with V4.5 BGL`s they show but not correctly ground can bleed through and buildings not showing correctly, I made the mistake of using my 4.5 AFCAD in V5 FB KSFO replaced it with V5 AFCAD BGL corrected this, and I suspect this is why some are asking for a blending tool for V5, and ORBX are pushing out updates for airports in V5 since V5HF, and some may be holding of updating there addon airports until after HF2.

Why not?

If its for remote buildings etc. that no one will ever see than its a smart thing of saving VRAM of the addon dev and a wise step IMO.

Nothing wrong with using stock buildings and textures where its not important to have custom ones.

Not when the default building is partly obscuring the addon scenery inside the airport in V5.

Well, I disagree. If you're charging money for an airport, I expect the entire airport to not be default, even the buildings that you deem to be "not important". In other words, if a developer is using stock textures he/she hasn't actually modeled the entire airport.

Why do I even bring this up? Because after installing Rex Worldwide Airports HD I noticed that some of my - quite expensive - addon airports now had textures that looked exactly like the ones I just selected in Rex - and I'm not talking about some remote building at parking position 322.

I'm not going to name and shame anyone, but that shouldn't happen.

(And, no, I'm on P3D 4.5 not 5).

Everyone is entitled to their point of view, however unreasonable it might be. Go ahead, do, name and shame why don't you.

Or is it "you know who I am talking about", a tactic much in vogue at present?

P3D has a library of buildings, textures etc. REX WWAHD should only swap those textures, not 3rd party textures. If it did swap something then:

1. Either REX targeted a non default texture which will mean a BUG

-or-

2. 3rd party developer created a texture named identical to one default P3D texture (which means that everywhere where the texture is in use, it would be replaced with that 3rd party texture.

Either way, it is a BUG and should not happen! I realy don't think REX created a algorythm to replace textures on important buildings, less important buildings, airport buildings REX did not consider important enough...-you get the point-...

I own very few 3rd party airports (larger ones) and have not yet noticed something odd...but I didn't payed too much attention to other buildings after I left the gate...

I don't think it is a problem to mention the airports and building where the textures are wrongly swapped, this way other users might check on their side and report back.

It could... . The 3rd party developer created the buildings (shapes, sizes) and positioned them on the right spot which is quite a bit of work. If a standard texture resambles (or is close enough) to the real world texture, it might be possible that he decided to use that one...but I wouldn't expect that from a DEV.
