Unrealistic Lights

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I love flying the FSW Falcon 50. Definitely the best bizjet for P3D. The only problem I have with it are the exterior lights - they are way too bright and very unrealistic. The nav lights are super bright and seem to come out of the wings, the strobe lights are the same. The taxi and landing lights illuminate the ground during the day and show an effect like it would look like in foggy conditions, all the time. The wing/recog lights are also extremely bright and can be seen on the ground during the day.

Here are some screenshots I captured - https://imgur.com/a/Xznxg6D

Wondering if these could be overhauled in the next update.

Thanks!

P3d v5 or v4?

v4 looks fine to me if you do no get crazy with the shaders.

When the first V5 installers for the Falcon and Lear were released, FSW was originally using the same lighting effects files as the V4 version of the airplane. It caused exactly that result (all external lights much too bright). The underlying reason is that P3DV5 has changed the way it interprets the intensity parameters in the *.fx files. (Probably related to the switch to DX-12). Mark reset the light effects parameters specifically for V5, and the lights are now much less intense.

If you are running the aircraft in V5, my only suggestion would be to uninstall it, download the very latest installer package and reinstall.

I am currently beta testing the V5 version of the TFDI 717 which has the same problem due to the use of V4 effects for the external lights.

If you are running in V4 on the other hand, I’m not sure what maybe causing it. If the V5 version of the lighting effects were used in a V4 installation, if anything, I would think that the lights would be too dim, not too bright.

I don’t know if you are using any shader mods. Perhaps some of them could cause a similar issue.

@JRBarrett I am running P3D v4.5. The lights were fine before I updated to the most recent update. I was on 1.9. I am using envtex and envshade, but I don't think these should have an effect on aircraft lighting. The large exterior lights seem to only appear with this aircraft, and were fine before this 2.0 update.

Thanks

Interesting. Perhaps the modified lights effects files that look fine in P3DV5 are too bright in V4, just as the V4 effects are too bright in V5. Seems counterintuitive, but I don’t know which specific settings do what in the .fx files in each sim.

I’d think the installer would detect which P3D version is targeted, so it can install the appropriate effects for each, but perhaps that did not work.

This would be a question for Al or Mark.

Mark or maybe Wickedbacon92 -- I'm clueless when it comes to light effects. I'll make Mark aware of this thread.

I have already raised this issue back in March, using P3D  4.5, but with zero response.  I thought maybe I was the only person in the world seeing this.  It's certainly a serious defect for me.

I also mentioned it on WickedBacon's thread (with examples), and he did say that he would take a look at the lights when he finishes the project, so I live in hope.  Beats me why no one else has raised this if they have the same lights that I see.
