Moving Orbx Library: anyone succeed?

Recommended Posts

I can't solve this issue but I've spent all evening very frustrated with ORBX.

I have all my sceneries working nicely in P3DV5 - but in a  Library on my SSD.

I want to link P3DV4 to the same sceneries using symbolic links using a dummy folder as V4 Orbx folder.

Instructions even in the forum are clear as mud!

Has anyone achieved this?

I would not recommend that approach... Orbx Central is going to get confused.

I tried it early on, and went back to the suggested method, which is to have separate libraries for V4 and V5.  Yes, it takes up more space, but in my case, I have very few items in the V4 library and lots in the V5 library.

+1 for symbolic links, good when your Prepard/FSX/Xplane scenery folders are takings valuable SSD space.

Symbolic links are fine... sharing a library between V4 and V5 is not  😉

I have done this twice. Here's what worked for me:

1. Go to Settings > Libraries.

2. Note the directory of the library you’d like to move.

3. Remove the library that you would like to move (remember: this doesn’t delete the actual files).

4. Close Central by right-clicking on the tray and selecting “quit”.

5. Move the directory to the new location in your operating system. This step may take a while depending on your disk speed.

6. Start Central again I'm not entirely convinced that closing / restarting Central is actually necessary, but I did them anyway because Orbx said so...

7. Open Settings, and then the Libraries page

8. Press ‘Create New Library’

9. Select the new library location, give it a name and then press ‘Save’. (Ex: "E:\Pete's New Orbx Library" - this library will have empty P3Dv4 and/or P3Dv5 folder(s) in it when you exit Central.)

10. Close Central again

11. Replace the empty P3Dv4 (or P3dv5) folder in Pete's New Orbx Library with the full P3Dv4 folder from Pete's Old Orbx Library (Ex: Move "C:\Pete's Old Orbx Library\P3Dv4\" to "E:\Pete's New Orbx Library\P3Dv4\" .)

12. Open Central again. Highlight each product in the list on the <y Products tab and click verify files. I know of no easy way to do them all at once, so I did each one individually. Hopefully, it will see all of the files already there for each product that you do this for in "E:\Pete's New Orbx Library\P3Dv4\" and just add it to the sim without re downloading them.

13. Close Central. Done.

It looks like you may also need to run "Sync Simulator".

Okay. Thanks. About to do all this now ...

takes a long time with huge entries like the True Earth ones.

I'll post when done, success or otherwise!

The "sync simulator" at the end is a key process...by doing that all the xml will be fixed and the path will be assigned to the new library

You should NOT do this as the files will differ from V5 to V4!

Thats one of the secure ways that will start "booohoooo, V5 is buggy BETA!" drama threads.

Even the V5 BGL format has changed without the updated ADE you cannot open the AFCAD. also V5 has more airports that are not in V4.
