A couple of issues for a new Falcon flyer (P3Dv4.5.2)

Recommended Posts

I bought the (excellent) Falcon 50 very recently and only flew that aircraft since then so as to learn it thoroughly. On these numerous daily flights I met with a few unrelated issues for which I am seeking help:

  1. During climb or descent on AP, after selecting my altitude and my VS, the plane will follow the selected VS up or down correctly, then, out of the blue, in the midst of its climb - or descent - suddenly the VS bug will jump to the extreme opposite direction, meaning if I had selected 2'000 feet/mn UP, it will go to 6'000 feet/mn DOWN, the first time that happened, I did not spot it immediately until my speed vanished under my wings to the stall limit... Now I noticed that on ALL my flights, and since I am aware of it, I keep an eye on the VS to react instantly, but surely there is something that is provoking that. Could it be because I am using the GoFlight MCP VS wheel, which apparently works flawlessly since I am using it extensively with all my complex add-ons without this kind of problem? Other than that, I cannot figure what else could create the sudden spike.
  2. I also bought the RXP GPS and sometimes, not on all flights, when I start a new flight, I make sure to click on Stop all systems first, and then start from the Cold and Dark cockpit, when reaching the stage when I connect the Avionics button, all instruments come alive except (again sometimes) the RXP GPS. The only way to resolve the issue is to exit P3Dv4.5.2 and reload the whole scenario which will start then normally... Any idea as to what can cause this? I am loading all my scenarii from the P3D default plane (the Commander 114TC for me) with all systems OFF. I also changed all my GoFlight modules to OFF before loading the plane.
  3. Now REX Weather Radar (latest version) is giving me a hard time, I am in touch with their support because (1) it does not detect any weather when I am flying in the midst of thunderstorms... and (2) very frequently, I would meet with CTD either mid-flight or - like yesterday and to-day on final. In another thread here for P3Dv5 I saw that there are dll that should be renamed, would this stand for P3Dv4.5.2 as well please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I also bought the same day the LearJet, I am experiencing similar issues, hence whatever will work for the Falcon will probably solve the LearJet problems.

This sounds like some combination of installation/GoFlight setup problems to me. I have not heard of the VS jumping from one extreme to the other before. Unfortunately, I have no experience with GoFlight equipment. However, as an experiment I would suggest you first load the default F-35 with all engines running and avionics on (the default F-35 seems to help with initializing sim variables). Then switch to the Falcon or Lear and see how things work without going through the cold and dark stage. Another thing to try is using Ready to start (on the Shift+1 Hangar popup). I would also suggest you read through Flysimware's Falcon50 and Lear35 manuals if you have not done so. If you have the latest versions of the RXP GTN GPS and REX WX radar, they should work OK with the Falcon and Lear in P3D4.5HF2.

Finally, make sure you installed the Falcon and Lear into the correct sim -- it is easy to select the wrong sim version during the install process.

Hopefully there is someone on this forum using GoFlight equipment that can be of more help.

Al

Jean-Claude, which weather engine are you using? If you are using the new ASPD3 beta version of Active Sky, even though it will install into P3D4HF2, it will cause CTDs. If you want to use ASPD3 in P3D V4, you need to be running HF3.

At present, the Wx Advantage radar is not compatible with ASPD3 (when used with P3DV4HF3), but an update is planned. The update will come from Milviz, rather than Rex when it is released.

If you are using ASP4, (or a weather engine other than Active Sky), the Wx Advantage radar should work in the presence of thunderstorms.

Thank you Al. I have been using the same default situation since FS9 this is why I was puzzled that it might be the cause, but I will try to create another default situation for the FSW birds to see if that takes care of the problem.

Thank you JR, I am running ASP4 for P3Dv4 version 7410 (update 041520), so I would have thought this was the correct and relevant version for the REX weather radar... This constant P3D update version chasing for each add-on can be somewhat confusing, it looks as though there is always one that gets lost in the race! I will dig further into that but it would appear that I am up to date and not running a Beta version, at least it is not listed as such on the HIFI site.

What happens is that on the ground the radar will pick up any area with CB or heavy rain correctly. a few minutes after take-off, those echos disappear from the radar screen, and it will remain black throughout the flight regardless of the weather, then at some point during the descent, it will again paint some echos that will vanish after a few seconds, even though I am surrounded by active cells with lightnings from all directions (I fly in Asia out of Singapore where CB are daily occurrences).

Yes, if you can see returns on the ground, the connection to Active Sky must be working. Not sure why you would lose returns in flight. The tilt setting can affect what is received. If the tilt is too high, the radar will be looking at the tops of the thunderstorms as you gain altitude, instead of the center where the precipitation is heaviest. But, I assume you have tried changing that?

Some aircraft radar emulations simulate auto tilt, which in a real aircraft is tied into the vertical gyro (to detect pitch angle) and the air data system (to detect altitude), but I don’t remember if the WXAdvantage radar has that feature.

Just landed in VTSP from WAHH, lots of CBs all over my route, no detection on the radar. Fortunately the Falcon can easily climb above FL400 when on short routes, so chances of finding embedded thunderstorms is very limited and one can visually skirt around them, but then it defeats the purpose of having a weather radar!...

I usually never exceed 4 to 5°up tilt upon take-off and close to 0° when enroute. There is no automatic tilt on the REX product. Changing range and gain did not yield any result either. When landing at VTSP, I had two huge cells straight ahead at less than 20 miles, and my weather radar screen remained black.

I also implemented Al's recommendation regarding the default plane and reverted to the F-35. I had no issue when loading the Falcon and the RXP GTN750, but bear in mind that this problem was intermittent, I could fly five legs with no issue, the GTN would come alive with the other avionics, and suddenly the sixth time, no joy, I had to restart P3D. Let's see if this issue is gone for good.

Thanks to both, I will follow-up with REX regarding the radar, but I am EXTREMELY happy of my FSW first purchase, excellent product indeed, especially with the RXP GTN 750!
