New Garmin Trainer 2.7.10 Messed up my F1 GTNs

Today I saw there was an update for the Reality XP GTNs so stupid me installed it.  As a result it installed the new GTN trainer 2.7.10.  Now I can't fly any aircraft that use the other GTN as the trainer is invalid for those.  I tried uninstalling both the Reality XP GTN software and the new GTN trainer.  On installing the old 2.7.0.0 trainer I saw, unfortunately, that it FORCES an update to 2.7.1.0.  So now I'm ......... and can't fly my other flight simulators.  Is there a solution for this?  I need to install GTN trainer 2.7.0.0.

If you have system restore active in Windows, you could try going back to a restore point saved before you uninstalled the old trainer. Unfortunately, as you have discovered, the trainer installer goes online to get the latest files from Garmin, so there is probably no way to get the 2.7.0.0 trainer back.

Ultimately, the responsibility is on F1 to update their GTN product to be compatible with the new trainer as RXP has already done. 

There is another possible option. I don’t know which aircraft you have that depend on the F1 GTN specifically, but the RXP software has an option to automatically re-write the panel.cfg for most aircraft that currently have an in-panel F1 GTN, so that it will use the RXP GTN instead. Jean-Luc could explain that process better than I.

Thanks for the information but it doesn't help at all.  System restore is NOT an option.  Even if I were to do a restore the GTN trainer is still 2.7.1.0 and apparently there is no way to install anything else as Garmin is forcing all installations to update to this version.  This just goes to prove to me that I shouldn't update my Reality XP software before I check on the F1 side.  This is totally unexpected and UNACCEPTABLE.  Right now I am so mad that I wish I could rip the Reality XP from my aircraft and replace it with the F1.

Because it would force me to purchase the Reality XP GTN software for that simulator and very few aircraft support the Reality XP GTN so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place because of what Garmin did forcing the update to 2.7.1.0.

As a fellow F1 GTN user, I really fail to see the point in blaming RXP here.

The whole affair is pretty simple: Windows 10 version 2004 broke Garmin's GTN Trainer, so Garmin had to update it to work correctly. Kudos to them for acting quickly, and the same to RXP for updating their product accordingly.

The only real issue is that F1 are pretending not to notice the issue, which has been known for many days now. All we've got are a few dismissive posts from an admin.

There will be an update for the F1 GTN soon. It always took a few days to get it ready when something changed on Garmin's or LM's side. 

I used to be one who updated each and everything on day one. I have become way more cautious in the meantime.

This is really not a reason to blame the two GTN manufacturers nor Garmin. Garmin had to update because the trainer did not work anymore with Win 10 2004, at least as a standalone product. So they had to act. 

RXP was faster to make its product compatible with the new trainer but F1 will follow. 

I am the least to be a patient customer but in our hobby that's the only way not to go mad at times.

You beat me about Garmin acting. But I don't think F1 is dismissive. Tiberiu always tried to do what was possible when he had to update. And he had to do this many times in the past without his fault.

Question is... why are you venting here.. instead of in the F1 GTN support forum?

I hear you, and I've always appreciated Tiberiu's work, but he hasn't been active in the forums for more than a week, and we've never even got a proper response acknowledging the issue...

Actually system restore is an option, if you have it enabled. If so, and you chose a restore point before you uninstalled the 2.7.0.0 trainer, when you do the restore, you would find the 2.7.0.0 trainer is back - it would be as if the installation of 2.7.0.1 never happened.

Obviously if you don’t have system restore enabled, the point is moot.

As others have explained, Garmin updated the trainer because 2.7.0.0 simply will not work with the new 2004 version of Windows 10, and many users have already upgraded to that. 

Reading your later post, I see that you are using F1 in “another” simulator (X-Plane?), so yes, if you wanted to use RXP instead you would have to purchase it separately, since the Windows and XP versions of the GTN are separate products, but they both use the same Garmin trainer. At least in Windows / FSX / P3D, almost any aircraft currently using the F1 can be easily modified to use the RXP GTN instead. I don’t know if that can be done in XP.

Still, it strikes me as very misplaced aggression on your part to put the blame on RXP for this problem. They did the “right thing” by proactively updating their GTN product to work with the new trainer within a day or two after release. The fact that F1 still has not done so for their own product is certainly not RXP’s fault.

Sorry but system restore is not an option.  2.7.0.0 was updated to 2.7.1.0.  A system restore only restores the operating system files and will not revert the folder containing 2.7.1.0 back to 2.7.0.0.  And there is no way to reinstall 2.7.0.0 because it forces an update to 2.7.1.0.  So system restore again is not an option.
