What did you fly in Prepar3d today?

Posted (edited)

I flew the default Cessna C172SP from FSX.  Had to change the default Directional Gyro to a freeware one I D/L'ed  to get the heading knob bug working in P3DV5.  Mainly did this to see how good the backward compatibility was.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.

Some of you guys seem to be flying all the time. Do you guys not work? Retired? I'm lucky if I can get a short flight in over the weekend.

Today: MD-82 over the Faroe Islands.

First time I've ever flown at this location, very distinctive topography.

Was meant to be flying from Vagar Airport (EKVG) to Keflavik (BIKF), had the Super Tube fully fueled with the FMC all programmed ready to go.

In the end, I decided the islands looked pretty cool with the thick cloud coverage that was around, so I spent an hour or two shooting approaches to the EKVG ILS-CAT-1 Rwy 30. Great approach, coming down through zero viz until you faintly see the islands off on the port side through the clouds, then following the ILS (both manual flight and full MD-82 autoland) down amongst the peaks to the runway, keeping an eye on the terrain radar for most of the way!

Tried it with some historical weather as well (as per pic), so I could actually take a look at the ortho scenery.

Maybe will make it back to Iceland tomorrow. 🙂
