PC Up-Grade from i7700k for Prepar 3d & FS2020

PC Up-Grade from i7700k for Prepar 3d & FS2020...plus 4k video editing.

I've been considering the Intel i9 10900k (extremely hard to locate and buy) or the AMD Ryzan 3900x (have in my position and not built yet). Most simmers are saying the 10900k but I know Mathijs Kok luvs his 3900x system.

Any comments would be appreciated...Darryl

If you are doing a lot of video editing go with the 3900X. It is supposed to tear through editing tasks. Here is an example comparison (although with a different Intel I9). Google '3900X Video Editing' and you see a lot of reviews.

I have the i7 7700k and plan to upgrade to a i9 10900k whenever I can actually buy one.  It seems like if you want the best CPU for flight simming (and gaming generally) and are ready to invest in some high quality cooling, the 10900k is the way to go.  I can't speak to video editing.

I'm testing the new sim so I'm bound by the NDA...all I can is say hold off from upgrading at this moment and wait for the new video cards to hit the market.

Probably $1,500-$2,000 U.S. for the Nvidia 3080Ti, I can't afford that in retirement! Will have praddle on with the 1070 in 4k for now.

I have upgraded from a 9700K to a 10900k and seen a significant improvement with P3D V5 (that is comparing with V4, btw). Currently I am running a 5K setup and am achieving stable 35-40fps during approach into big airports with traffic using the FSLabs A320 with settings on medium/high and EA enabled.

I could not get that performance out of my older chip.

The rest of my config has remained more or less the same.

@GCBraunWow 5k!  I haven't seen anybody yet running that high.  Do you notice a difference?  I didn't know anything in the P3D world was being made with texture sizes to take advantage of that, but there is a lot I don't know 😉

Well, I don’t use my computer only for P3D and the ultra-wide aspect is very good for productivity as well.

Besides, considering that I sit closer to the monitor then I would to a big-screen TV, I believe the extra resolution is welcome. The textures show their age on some places, but overall the simulator looks very sharp.

Let the prices drop on the 20xx cards, 2070 would be a good card.

Nice upgrade, how is that BeQuiet Pure Base 500DX working for you?

I really like it! Good looking, compact and with clever ergonomics.
