Unless jobs are in abundance where you live, I wouldn't. Aviation may be a hobby or an obsession for you but your job is how you take care of your family.

Strange question. How often have you been on a 747? The first time is the same as the last one.

Prioritize your family and being able to afford to take care of them? Or be selfish and go on a plane? Hmmmmm. Hard one that...

When is the last 747-400 flight? I thought Qantas had already done that??

Family first. However, if you haven't been on a 747 before, have some spare money to spend and believe there will be easily another job or that you can make an arrangement with your new boss that you start a week later, then go for it. Some things in life cannot be repeated.

My friend retired after being on the last Air Canada 747 flight. But he was the pilot.

As others have said, family first. If you will absolutely lose your job, and finding another will take time, chasing the last 747 flight is a mistake. Sometimes being a grown-up sucks, and you can't always do what you want, especially if it conflicts with your responsibilities to your family.

Just my 2 Cents. Best of luck with your decision.

Should we assume your family is OK with this and you are here to get some objective advice before making a final decision?

Or you could do what I did and combine the two...

Unknowingly I took what was to be my last ever 747-400 flight earlier this year just before the aircraft was Grounded then retired without warning.

As I was actually in command of the said 747 at the time little did I know that it would not only mean my last flight on the jet that I’ve loved flying for the last 23 years , but would also mean I was out of a job.

luckily for me Subsequent union negotiations have managed to temper the redundancies  slightly so I will at some point be trained onto another aircraft, the same sadly can’t be said for my first Officer on that last flight.

I can't believe this is a serious question. I love the 747 as well but it's just an aeroplane.

And thus is the life of an airline employee.

Yes, because when you are 80 years old you will look back and remember flying the 747 with your daughter and not some crappy job
