Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 - Gamers vs Simmers

Recommended Posts

Something I have thought about quite a bit, especially given Simmers tendency for proprietary feelings towards pretty much any sim.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Yes. YouTube is great.. obsidianAnt  I am defiantly not a gamer or "hard core simmer". Just like to fly low and slow, and enjoy the view. I think there will be plenty for everyone to do their own thing.

The pay to play scheme, is it a MS Flight reboot, and how will third party developers be treated, are all factors for me.

The key to pleasing both crowds is to provide a great platform with extensive SDK so the community can take it and build anything they want on top of it.

As usual, Obsidian Ant has cut to the heart of the problem and stated it clearly.  I appreciate the link.

I for one welcome our new Gamer Community friends.  Enjoy the wonderful world of flying, but don't be surprised if it influences you to work on getting a real world pilot's license.  PS.  Try flying the 747 inverted under the Golden Gate bridge. 😄

And don't worry, the DLC you may eventually see is all optional, and not required for the experience.  You don't have to buy it all.  Think of it like a plate at a restaurant;  you don't have to load it with everything on the menu to have a good meal.  For example, one of the train sims has $40,000 worth of DLC, which is only there to give you options.  Lots of options.

With any luck, Avsim will provide you a protected forum where you can ask any question you want without being ridiculed by the "Serious Simmers."  We had that with Microsoft Flight, and in those days we really needed it.

Good luck, and see you in the virtual skies.

Don't judge a book by its cover. 🙂

Fishing for conflict ... don't we have enough of that already (both virtual and real)?

Cheers, Rob.

Holy mother of undulated trees!

It's a one off purchase, unless you opt for the optional Game Pass subscription.

They have several third party developers in the Alpha with the SDK, obviously they can't say anything, but that fact they are actually engaging with Third party devs seems like good news.

And it's nothing like MS Flight, watching any of the videos they've released shows that.

Obsidian Ant has a great voice!  Is he here on Avsim?

Yep, I'm here.

I don't mind putting my cards on the table.

Not really.

With a voice like that I wish I was.

A bit.

But actually, No, I'm Spartacus...

I often felt this to be a debate of semantics. Gamer and simmer have always, to me, felt as interchangeable as the term speedbrake or spoiler; tail or empennage.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
