Finally a sim where I don't need thousands of add-ons!

Recommended Posts

I am glad that I don't need to purchase a weather engine, flight planner, ground services, AI package, textures, night lighting, lighting for AI planes, effects packages, camera system, and the list goes on and on.

MFS is the 1st sim to include most of this into the core of the sim already. I am tired of having to rely on purchasing and dealing with the endless amounts of tinkering and setting up 3rd party add-ons to play nicely with one another. It's finally nice to see a flight sim that have most of the stuff we want from the start.

The less we have to rely on 3rd party add-ons the better. It's been a PITA with the old FSX, Prepar3D, and X-Plane. I do appreciate that we have options and such, but for me having it built into the core sim is so much better.

The only add-ons that make sense for MFS would be Custom Airports and Airplanes. No need for landclass, night lighting, AI, vector, global texture replacements. I really hope I can say goodbye to all those kind of addons. I just want to load up the sim, fly and enjoy. Those days of endless configuring and tweaking of settings are frustrating and I hope I won't have to deal with that anymore or as much with MFS.

Give it time. Addons will come.

But yes, there's enough in the base game to keep everyone busy for a while.

Doesn’t mean it will be up too the third party developers Standards. It may be a good base, but Do we really know if it will replace the standards that we are accustomed too?

p.s I’m not a tester, I’ve never used the program so I have no idea, just playing devils advocate.....No question About it I will be purchasing it though.

Appears to many, many favorite airports are missing (Zero Texas Airports) or is it like Xplane, they will come later?

If Asobo can incorporate all these features and do it on a level on par with 3PD or better than it'll be a much better experience for everyone. I know I'd rather take a sim that can do it all rather than having to purchase an add-on for each and everything that I want it to do. Take for example the weather engine that's built in, which seems very impressive and better than anything I've seen in any flightsim with 3rd party weather engines. What I'm saying is that if a sim can do all that and more without me relying on add-ons, then that would save me a ton of time, money and trouble.

You just wait til some of the TPDs get hold of the SDK; you'll see some add-ons before too long which you'll want to buy. So it's not a case of whether TPDs will create some add-ons, but how soon they will be available. If they don't, then that's basically the end of their business. Sure, people will still fly FSX, XPlane and P3D, so there'll still be those markets for add-ons which don't take a long time to develop, but the new MS sim will be the big market they'll all want to go for in order to garner larger sales figures for an add-on which has a considerable investment in time.

TPDs can often push things a bit more in a specific direction, because they are able to have their own specialised, targeted agenda rather than going for the shotgun approach which is necessary when tasked with creating an entire sim product. I've no doubt that many TPDs have already been working on this for quite some time, and so I'm willing to bet you'll see some add-on airliners in a matter of weeks following the main release.

And here is a prediction for you: The Just Flight Boeing 747-100/200 will be one of the first TPD jetliners available for the new sim, and it'll out very quickly.

I hope you are correct, Alan. It will be a first day buy for me

Just a guess admittedly, but I can recall being at the Cosford show two years ago when JF were there, showing an early build of that 747, and saying it would be out that December. Now we all know dates can slip, but two years? Then it all went a bit quiet and we had all of the 64 Bit malarkey with P3D, then we had the GPU usage tweak with V5, but still no sign of the thing. Then it appeared they'd redone some stuff to improve the visuals, but still no release, so it is my suspicion that the delay is because they've been working on cross-platform development work procedure flows for the thing, which will make it easier to fit it in the new MS sim as well as in P3D and XPlane.

More than anything, the reason I think that, is because traditionally, JF has really been the developer to embrace new sims early and not be afraid to have a crack at every sim platform. They were the first (and almost the only) developer to get an add-on aeroplane out for the aborted Flight Sim World (whilst it was still a beta), and that add-on GA aeroplane was literally the first thing out there with PBR textures because of that. Then they have also been one of the few developers to get stuff out for AeroFly FS (both V1 and V2). And they also port a lot of stuff to XPlane. So they definitely have a history of being first out of the gate for new flight sim add-ons.

And who wouldn't? The thing is it's way too early to tell what kind of things people will want improved. It's a bottomless pit and where a lot of 3rd party products won't be needed anymore there will be plenty of new types of products.

Good thing of course is that they're completely optional. And always have been.

I am not in the alpha/beta but those small things with small ink (pictures/video may not be as in final game can go two ways) filled with Addons already 😃

You make a good point. People don’t know what they want until it’s presented to them as an option more often than not.

This is the sim community we are talking about. Every single details will be nitpicked until the end of time.

I'm wondering when the first 3PD airports will be released for the big standard edition and at what price point. If you fly in Europe you'll want EGLL and EHAM, and if those 2 alone can be bought for measurably less than the full fat MSFS edition... would MS allow that on their store?

Third party airplanes will still be in demand. They won't be replaced by the default aircraft for the people who are looking for study level.

You sum it up well, Aaron.

Good to see the basic functionalities that P3D gave up, now covered again. Hoping that the P3D team has understood the signal loud and clear and will follow suit. The addition of TS, even a little awkward, into v5 is of good omen. They may even give up the stupid watermark on the top right of the screen, who knows ? For the premium versions, MS offers aircraft and airports not to erase a stain on the screen😄

Great to see that some addon developers of aircraft and sceneries are on board the new ship. Airports, cityscapes, landmarks, moving stuff (trains etc) we will have tons of new useful addons to choose from...
