Are any of the members of ASOBO from the original FSX team?

That'd actually be a great name for it too. 🤣

I'm curious to know if any of the members from ASOBO Studio are from the Aces team that developed the original Microsoft Flight Simulator?

Anyone who refers to FSX as the "original" Microsoft Flight Simulator is giving their age away.

It’s not...by a looooooooooooong stretch. Believe me 😭

Maybe if we’re talking kites or paper planes here?

If we’re referring to real aircraft - ha ha, lol, that is funny!

We haven’t had a good P3D EULA discussion sine 2013 (yes, Tom got mad at us about that one).

Maybe we should schedule one every 5-10 years?

Indeed.. And before FSX we had.. FS2004, FS2002, FS2000, etc.. The original was FS1.

LM is a leader in ground target recognition AI, has routine access to the huge imagery portfolios of companies like Maxxar, has been building great aircraft of all kinds forever, has a huge highly technological subcontractor sector around it.  Did you see any of this in v4 ? P3D has been my favorite sim for 7 years but I’d say ‘time to rise from your comfy chair and move your behind guys’ 😃.

You say that you like P3D, but every comment I’ve seen from you towards it is extremely negative, and you haven’t upgraded to either of the last two - much improved - versions??

P3D is good at what it tries to do - it aims to be a progressively-improving FSX-compatible platform. V5 is my favorite sim ever (which may, of course, change on August 18th).

Asobo have gone the other route - a ground-up new sim (more or less).

They are both reasonable approaches, different goals, so different end products.

Actually the very 1st flight sim for me was the Sublogic one by Bruce Willis. That is the original one.

Quite right, but it was Bruce Artwick in 1979. I had it for the Radio Shack TRS-80.

Computer-graphics specialist Bruce Artwick and pilot and marketing student Stu Moment were roommates at the University of Illinois. A2FS1 Flight Simulator, their first product after forming Sublogic,[2] had black and white wireframe graphics, featured a very limited scenery consisting of 36 tiles (in a 6 by 6 pattern, which roughly equals a few hundred square kilometers), and provided a very basic simulation (with only one aircraft simulated).

Sublogic advertised that the $25 FS1 "is a visual flight simulator that gives you realistically stable aircraft control", with a graphics engine "capable of drawing 150 lines per second. AHH the good old days... 3 fps...

Ah, I do remember SLFS 1979...

$25 is a steal. Here's my copy of SLFS 1983, which was AUD$80.

I haven't opened it yet - but will get around to doing so soon...

I also have the first Mac version, and the hardware to play both sims (including joysticks). Aiming for 60 FPS and no stutters! 🙂

Trivia of the day (for those who don't know): The .bgl files you've been using for scenery all of these years - that acronym stands for BAO Graphical Language, where "BAO" is "Bruce Artwick Organisation".

Do you happen to have the original FS1 box? I would love to see the front and back in full detail if you do. Interesting, I never knew that!

BTW, whatever happened to Bruce? Is he still around I hope. If not, I wish he could've stayed to see how far MFS has come along.

Isn’t the P3D team made of Aces Studios veterans ?

And too hard to resist, it shows!  They've been involved in the product too long to make the core changes that need to be done without being so intimate with it.  I am TRULY THANKFUL that LM picked up the slack and gave us all a continuation and improvement of FSX but truth of the matter is it is still just an evolving FSX!

FS 1.0 – This image is of FS 1.0 displaying color on a composite monitor.[4] The game does have support for RGB monitors, but in monochrome only.

FS1

FS 2.0 – Scenery coverage includes the entire United States.

FS2

FS 3.0 – Many more buildings and additional aircraft. For the first time, users had an option to view the aircraft from the outside. A Cessna Skylane flying over Chicago is shown here.

FS3

FS 4.0 – Now with dynamic scenery, more detailed roads, bridges, and buildings. Allowed users to design their own aircraft.

FS4
