Disk Space Requirement

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

So, super excited about the launch of MSFS next month, and have pre ordered the Premium edition!

Was a little surprised by the seemingly huge disk space requirement that it lists in the minimum spec - 150GB!

I've done some cleaning up of my SSD and by the deletion of my old FSX install and quite a lot of other unnecessary software accumulated over the years I've got it to 152GB free...

I know everyone who's been part of the process is still under NDAs and stuff so obviously don't get yourself in trouble but I wondered if anyone knew if that listed 150GB is actually how big it is or if in reality it works out a little less than that? Or would it just be worth me buying another SSD to dedicate it?

Cheers

Tom

I think, you have to buy another SSD. For SSD is bad, if is used nearly to maximum capacity. For start, physical version with DVDs has 10 DL DVD (about 8,5GB), so minimum required space will be near 85GB. But some instalation data are compresssed, so real required space can be much more, than 85GB and you need some space for streaming scenery cache.

Cool, thanks! Just ordered a new 500GB Samsung 860 EVO so I can dedicate just for Flight Sim use. Should be all set to go!

I just ordered a 1TB SSD. I don't want to be caught short.  These things have a way of growing exponentially when the hi-def add-ons start to roll out.

I still hope the installation path can be changed easily. My main SSD being really old does not even have 150 free gigs (by FAR), it doesn’t even have this total capacity. 😂 So I wonder if the „app“ will eventually install at all.

One thing is disc space requirement when streaming online with max bandwith. Another matter altogether when doing offline mode with pre-cached high fidelity scenery. The space needed then would be much, much higher.

Yes that's a point, I hope so as I also won't be installing it on my system disk!

Or course I will upgrade the whole rig at a later point, but not on day one. I’d just like to see how (or actually, if at all) it would run on the old system.

Oh that's nothing....AAA titles these days are massive.  I installed Modern Warfare and with multiplayer it's like over 300GB lol
